Hi I have a problem with my 96 dse auto in that the gearchanges seem to take a long time to happen , ie 1-2 engine has to rev to 3700 rpm and same for 2-3 . it does change up to 4 but car needs to be going over 65 mph .changed oil and filter in gearbox, car was not used for some time and gearchanges were perfect before.
Any ideas im in se Ireland , any EXPERTS here say new gearbox needed ?

There is a great additive you can add to the gearbox oil that will clean the valve blocks as oftentimes it is the valves sticking which leads to holding gears or flaring inbetween changes...

Can't remember exactly what it is called...Lucas Transmission Cleaner or something.... Datatek knows it well and he has had some great results with it too....

Lucas Transmission Fix.:D

Covered 1000 miles since Lucas tranny fix went in... Still no improvement on mine. It only 'flares' when going 3-4 or 4-3, sometimes badly, depending on load.

Very similer prob with a m8's gaylander....turned out it was the fuel pump not giving engine enough fuel so ecu was holding onto lower gears to prevent a stall.
Worth a look.

Sorry for mentioning gaylanders in the RR section:eek:

Bollix done it again:doh::doh:

If you use the stick to effect a manual change does it still flare? Mine didn't which suggested either low oil pressure or a sticky valve to me. (I know nowt about auto boxes!) If it still flares, I'd budget for a box change or a re-build. I have a spare box but I'm daunted by the weight if the lump so have not thought about doing a swap especially as the box is working fine again for the moment.
One more thought, you might like the check the torque reduction request line from the auto box to the engine ECU in case there is a bad connection or broken wire:)
