hi guys & galls,

I have just purchased a winch bumper for my disco and it is quite a way away, I am in Manchester the bumper is in mid wales. fortunately my parents live in north wales so they have collected it for me.

my question is, can I drive without my bumper so I can go to my parents to get the new one? I will of course fit it there and drive back with it fitted. it just saves me sticking it in the car with the misses, 2 dogs and 15 year old moodey sod.

am I ok to do this in the eyes of the law?

thanks for the quick reply.

the only bits I can think of that may cause damage if anything hit them would be the 2 bits of the chassis it mounts to. maybe wrap them up in bubble wrap?

if I remove the original when I get there I still have to bring one back with me inside the car.

I like the idea of a wood one lol they could burn it on their log burner then lol. but I cannot be bothered making it. I might put my current bumper on gumtree in the area they live and see if there is much interest. if there is then it can stay there and someone can come and buy it.

if it were me I would just take it off and drive, doubt anyone would even notice

bumper officer, well it was there when I left home :D

as cabbie says, long as there is nothing pointy, not as if a bumper wouldn't damage anything you hit anyway, I thought they were there to protect your vehicle.

yeah thanks guys, as soon as cabbie said it was no problem the decision was made. I have also done a bit of a google and there is a lot of mixed feelings but mainly about cars whos bumpers would actually help a pedestrian in a crash, like ones made of plastic that have crumple zones. I am sure that any any reasonable police officer would understand the situation.

anyways thanks to everyone who replied I got the answer I needed.

and do not underestimate bubble wrap ;)

Have to put it in the car? So what?

Man up lol :D

lol yeah not rite arsed about putting sh1t in the car.

just limited for space. going to my parents usually involves a weekend trip so that means taking everything! 2 dogs 1 child 1 woman and me and everything that involved with that so there isn't much room left once they have all got in.
