I heard this story from my wife today after she came home from work. the son of one of her work colleagues took his car driving test yesterday. the test was at short notice, and his driving instructor was not able to be with him. so he got another instructor to give him a couple of lessons before the test. he has his own car which is insured for him, taxed and mot`d. this is the car he took the lessons in immediately prior to the test and then turned up at the test centre with.
now apparently so the story goes. he was told he could not do the test in his car, because at some time in its history. this model had been subject to a recall from the factory because of a braking issue. and because he did not have proof that it had been rectified, he could not use it.
does this sound right?
please bear in mind I heard this story 2nd hand. so the facts could have been twisted. but I would have thought a current mot was sufficient. or does a factory recall over ride this?
thanks, steve

One of my friends had the same in a Clio - they had a recall for the bonnet flipping up, and because she hadn't got proof that the 'fix' had been done they wouldn't let her take her test in it.

Yes it can happen, I remember reading it in the rules when I did my trailer test recently.
I'm pretty sure there is a list of the most common cars with recalls on the website.

I heard recently some one getting a mark down on there test for having the air con on
Coz its not environmentally friendly driving :crazy_driver:

got me thinking whilst driving around this morning.
if you bought a used car that had been subject to a recall that you were unaware of. then you needed to make an insurance claim for what ever reason. could the insurance company use this as an excuse to with hold payment?

UNBELIEVEABLE!! FFS. Being comfortable when driving helps you to concentrate more on the driving itself.

This environmental PC stuff is really starting to annoy me..... just waiting for a good eruption from a couple of the planet's biggest active volcanos and THAT will shut the mouths of the PC enviro brigade. :D :bolt:

....and I digress.... sorry.
Diff.

Quite worrying that you could potentially get failed for turning up in a previously recalled vehicle. Not as much an issue for me until I finally get round to adding the +E entitlement to my licence but I can see a few getting caught out with this one if it true.

I know I've taken a few works vans into main dealers for servicing to be told that they need recall repairs that for some reason they haven't notified us about until we book it in for the service!
