Not so long ago the wife managed to lock the keys inside the car.....DOH.

I have now found the cause of the problem, the drivrs c/l doesnt seem to be pushing the mechanism across far enough. So when you go to open the door it manages to relock, which is a problem if the keys are inside.

I have checked and exchanged the c/l motor, tried to adjust it on the minimum mounting bracket. Lubricated the mech inside the door.

And still it self locks....

Any ideas what could be causing the problem???

might be the spring has gone in the lock. when you pull the handle you will see the internal knob move down a bit. the parts are cheapish off ebay and its not a major job if you have a few basic tools

The guy who sells the springs on Ebay supplies a sheet of instructions explaining how to fit them. It is a common fault and I have had to replace four out of the five so far so I would reccomend buying a full set as you will have to replace them all soon.

Just done all the springs on my disco
All 5 doors as one went, then the other

Instructions are clear and easy to follow, just be aware that they are 'handed' springs, but not an issue as they come sellotaped to the instructions in small bags for the correct side

LRO last month also covered changing these springs in the "mend it " section with photo's

easy job, one hour each door start to finish inc. getting the tools out of garage and putting away on completion :)

I have a similar problem on my Discovery 2 back door, I am often unable to open it from either the outside or inside. The inside lock knob does pop up when unlocking the door, but pulling it up higher while working the inside lever does not work. Do you think this could be the spring or something else?

NO the spring issue is just D1 with a D2 any lock probs then it's usually a replacement lock, different locks you see.
