Hello, fellow P38 sufferers - hoping someone out there has a solution. I have a 2001 P38 2.5d Wessie (RHD).

My front drivers door has superlocked and won't open from inside or outside, as a result of the door latch failing. All the other doors work fine, so not locked out of the car.

On the drivers door, the door card was already removed - so not had that hassle.

So I attempted the method of splitting the top of the lock open to allow me to remove the spring, to then in turn move the pawl with a wire rod and open the door (as described across a number of posts/forums). However, on splitting the lock, low and behold there is no spring to remove and the door remains resolutely locked!.

Not sure if this is because I have a later P38 model with the door latch actuator with grey plug = different/later design.

Question is where do I go from here? (....other than battering the damn into submission).

The superlock bit is inside the actuator. Cheapest way is to cut the door shackle from the back seat if you can then dissemble from there. Get a replacement door shackle off a scrapper first.

....Guys, thanks for your replies. Was really at the end of my tether with it yesterday.

This morning, took the advice and a few whacks again with the heavy hammer and long screwdriver, the superlock relented and the drivers door sprung open...happy days. :)

Brand new door latch ordered. Lesson learned - buying door latch from a scrapper to save money was a false economy.

If you have the original RF receiver and no other fixes then the motors can burn out from RF interference and if unlucky superlock youbout at the same time. Some cut the superlock wire or glue the tang thingy in the actuator.

Personally I left it but never superlock and I sorted the RF receiver. No issues since.

The best fix to disable super lock is to remove the locking pawl. I don't like cutting the motor wire or removing the motor as that leaves an output from the out station floating which is a potential source of problems.
