Help. Superlocked and Engine disabled

Hello Folks,

In trying to fit a replacement drivers lock this afternoon, when I went to test it, the car superlocked and now the drivers door won't open. Luckily I've left the back door open so I still have access to the car but when I tried to start the engine, thinking that it might unlock automatically when running, the display said that the engine is disabled. I've tried the EKA to no avail. Grateful for any advice on getting into the car and getting it running again (it's a 1997 2.5 DSE). The door card is in place so i've no access to the workings from inside.

Are you sure it's super locked? It shouldn't lock if there's a door open
If the eka won't work via the door then likely it's a Microswitch problem

The previous owner told me that the BeCM is a replacement unit.
 
Superlock means the doors can't be opened from the inside.
If the becm has changed then the eka will be different, i think. I don't know how you can find the one for the new becm. Others may know
 
Seems silly but have you tried lifting the cill button or using the handle?

If you were in there they are surely connected.

Super lock and engine disabled are not connected.
I suspect your door lock has micro switch problems. It also sounds like one or more of the operating links have dropped off if you cannot unlock it with the key, or via the internal button, either that or the handle link is off.
A lock unlock cycle with the FOB should clear the engine disabled message in most circumstances if the drivers door lock is working.
If the BECM has been changed, it depends who did it. Quite likely the EKA and the VIN number were not set to match the original.

Yes, tried that first. Then climbed in and used the internal handle. No joy.

Tried the fob loads, just in case (prev owner told me it doesn't work - seemed like he was right). It flashes red but nothing happens. Now as I open the rear door, the headlights flash which suggests alarm mode. Still locked out. I've ordered a door striker, just in case I have to hacksaw the original one off to get the door open (not overy worried about paint damage as the car is tatty and I will paint the doors in due course). I'm thinking that I might have to try to get the Becm out and send it off to be reset (unlike the previous owner I'll get the EKA code reset to something sensible and get the VIN put in) and the immobiliser disabled. .

Yes, opened and closed fine until I got in and pushed the cill button home, then bingo.
Sounds like a link has dropped off, I have had that happen. If the BECM was changed, and the FOB doesn't work, it's likely you have a FOB that matches to original BECM.
You really need diagnostics to see what is going on and then turn off EKA and the immobiliser, this is important if you are operating the car just with the key or you will have constant problems.

My Nanocom tells me the EKA code, and because the BeCM is itself "unlocked" it lets me edit the EKA to a more likely to succeed number combo (low digits). :D
My replacement BeCM came from Howe Engineering, there are quite few such companies. CallRova.com is a chap on here and he's the mutt's Nut's with BecM's.

I think I'm going to wait for the replacement door striker to arrive, then get the door open, check the rods. But I'm puzzled as to why the internal handle doesn't open the door - that feels securely connected to the actuator (this pointed me to superlocking in the first place). On every car I've ever had the inside handle overrides the lock (and is I believe an MOT failure if the door doesn't open from the inside in normal operation). I'll change the actuator back to the non-locking, but otherwise working one I took out and see if this allows the engine to be enabled. If not, it's BeCM repair time.

Superlock disables any internal handles working on all doors. It’s in the manual about locking kids in too keep them quiet so not to do it as they can’t get out.

The drivers side rear door opens on the outer handle. I am reluctant at the moment to try the internal handle as the passenger doors are against a wall and did not want to get locked in.

The previous owner has just sent me a text he got, at the time, from the people who supplied the BeCM (We-R-rangerover-P38s Ltd) which shows a security info card and EKA that went with the replacement BeCM. I'll try that tomorrow morning, torrential rain permitting.
 
It would be a good idea to disable super locking on the drivers door latch. I do this by removing the locking pawl inside the lock, others do it by snipping the wire to the motor but that is not foolproof.

I'm now able to open the drivers door - after hours with a hacksaw between the front/back doors to remove the striker (replacement shoudl be here shortly). I've also taken out the superlocked actuator -replaced it with the original - not fully working one for the time being. Are there any tutorials showing how to disable/remove the superlock pawl?

I doubt there is anything wrong with the BECM, a lock unlock cycle with a working FOB would probably clear the fault. You need to do Marty's drivers door lock micro switch test and you need diagnostics. Depending where you are located, there may be someone near you with a Nanocom.

Tks. I'll check out the rescue map and make some calls.
 
If you have a door latch out then do the microswitch tests. If the microswitches have failed, then you might as well open the latch & see how it works.

You can also check both motors using a 9V battery.
