Hello peeps, my central locking has never opened the drivers door but it aways worked on the key, now it just spins in the lock side to side, is it an electrical lock or manual? If its manual I will take door card off and have a look, if it's a new electrical lock needed I will wait and keep leaning over passenger seat to open it till I get a new one.

+1 on the little link between the door lock and the latch assembly.

It doesn't actually fasten to the latch, it just sits in a recess. It's only fixed to the back of the lock barrel with a pin arrangement.

One trouble is that it's made of the finest sh1t-ite and can break at the lock end and you can't buy a replacement, they just aren't available. However our mate @neilly has successfully fashioned his own replacement linkage out of a 4" round nail. Ask him nicely and he might give you the dimensions which he used.

If you can't open the drivers door from the fob but all the others will unlock then that would suggest a problem with the latch. Unfortunately, the D2 door latches aren't user repair friendly, some have said that they've been able to open them and replace the various motors, but frankly, having tried myself to get into one, I gave it up as a bad job and bought a replacement latch. They ain't cheap, 80 to 120 quid depending on which latch and where you get it from.

I think I need to take a look then, I am pretty good at bodging things and I don't mind if it doesn't work off the fob just the key, I can fabricate/ bodge quite well, the only reason it opens from the inside is due to cable tie magic holding the release cable at an angle...... to be honest I had forgotten I had done that till now, looks like it's screwdrivers and spanners at dawn then for me.
