Driveshaft was overhauled last summer. I am quite sure it's this.

Anyone have a view on OEM or Aftermarket chain? OEM is double the price.

I'm seeing 252 from Ashcroft aftermarket vs 336 Genuine on a quick search. 90 quid differential on a key transmission item that is a monumental PITA to replace - I would say if you can afford it, and your intention is to keep the vehicle, go genuine.
Having said that, I would probably buy the Ashcroft one....toothed "Morse" chain is common these days, so provided it's properly sourced (Ashcroft claim it is) it should be fine.

(I'm being careful about using the term OEM here - In my world it means Original Equipment Manufacturer, ie: Genuine, but I am seeing ads & stuff that counterpose OEM with Genuine which is confusing)

I buy a lot of engineering stuff commercially, and £115 somehow doesn't seem enough. I could be completely wrong of course, and Chinese (or whatever it is) QA has improved immensely recently.

It's all about risk management......

Good question. I expect the parts have no guarantee.

I'm keeping the vehicle until something really major goes wrong. It's on 140,000 at the moment.

It's difficult figuring out the quality from these websites.

Call Ashcroft and ask them which chain they use in their rebuilds, which they warranty.
If it's this one, it's probably a good buy, as they make specific claims for it on the site.
Should it stretch or otherwise fail, then you have a leg to stand on.

Thanks, I've emailed them, as they are closed at the weekend. I shall buy the chain from them. Just asked what other parts I need to do while it's off.

They do a rebuild for 560 - they'll probably try and sell you one of those.
This may be worthy of consideration, as it de-risks the whole business and takes a whole bunch of time out of it. One in, one out, job done.

Very much your wallet's call on that one.

Be interesting what else they change, probably the v/c. Only rebuild a Classic t/box and from memory it was 3 oil seals, bearings and the chain from memory.

bearings are generally one of the longer lasting parts(except the 2 output bearings stc1130),the 2 sprockets are the things you need to be looking at if chains worn ,and epicyclic unit securing stakes been loose

It's all fixed now. Local mechanique fitted the new chain. Amazingly he did it without removing the box from the car.

Now all is well.
