Doing a "Auto-box oil change how to" any suggestions?

Hello,

Doing my bit for a forum im hopefully having alot from in the future so im going to try and put together a "autobox oil change" how-to.

Does anyone have any thing to input...

-Tips - (i.e how much comes out)
-Suggestions
-Technical details (i.e. amount to put back in)
-Things to look out for
-etc

Can someone who knows more than me do a step-by-step in the meantime. Ill note down Socket sizes etc as I go thru and get lots of lovely piccies.

May be worth mentioning that when you drain the oil the torque converter stays full sp to do a proper change you have to drain and refil a few times to clear out the old oil.Also on the later engines there is no dip tube just a level plug.
 
Nice points - especially about the Torque converter? How does the oil move from one to another. Is there just 2 low points with a higher point in the middle or a fancy valve or something?

A few qus i have myself....

1. How bigger tub do i need to collect the stuff that i tip out?
2. Should i run it abit to warm up the oil 1st?
3. Im not 100% how i fill it - is it thru the Dipstick tube?
4. Any hylomar on the gasket or Sump plug?
5. If the front is raised slightly does that help (i.e. front on car ramps)
 
Sorry to be negative, but do you not think it maybe better to leave the "how to" to someone who knows sort of like. "HOW" to do it.
 
Cool.

Parts - tools, 5l+ of Dexron II, sump plug/washer, 5l tub
Start car, let it warm up, cycle through gears, turn engine off, remove dipstick.
crawl under car, undo sump plug, catch draining oil....

Whats the next stage if i want to empty the TC also?
A) Fit old plug, pour some ATF down the filler tube. Remove old plug and catch oil again
B) Just pour ATF down the tube anyway.
how much ATF would you pour down in either case?

Once happy you have drained all oil, Fit new sump plug/Washer and tourque to 10NM or 7.3Ft/Lbs. Back under the bonnet....

How would you refill? 5l's straight away or build up slowly ?

You are correct. However i will post it on here for a scrutoneer or 2 to check over, comment on etc before it becomes a proper how-to. Im just starting the ball rolling and getting a few piccies. tool lists etc. I normally makes notes anyway when I do jobs like this so why not share it with the world for future ppl to follow. And wether im an expert or not, theres a good chance that someone will read it who is even less experienced than me who will really appreciate it no matter how vague it is.

oil in t/c only gets swapped when engines running,so takes a few changes ,but i would say due to detergent in atf its not necessary or necessarily a good idea to do several oil changes too quick,it pours slow you cant make it go in quick

I think I remember seeing one on here before with photo and spanner and sizes so try doing a thread search and also download RAVE it gives a good description.Also wise to remove sump and replace filter.Also if you take the bottom hose off the oil cooler you will get the old oil out of the cooler and maybe if you run the engine with the hose off you might pump more out.Dont run the engine for more that 15 sec.
 
When I did my first oil and strainer change I failed to notice that there are two O rings on the strainer. I missed one and result is really messed up gear changes as air is mixed in with the ATF.
