Does it look like it's for sale?

Need some reassurance here guys.

How often do you get asked if your disco is for sale?

A few months back, the "travellers" were in town and some strange scruffy oik came and "suggested" that my parent's drive (where I keep the disco) needed doing. Then asked if the disco was for sale then disappeared without visiting anyone else.

Two weeks ago, a more polite chappie did the same thing, but visited several other houses asking about driveways. He apologised for being rude, but wanted to know if the disco was for sale.

Anyway, at work at the mo, and my brother texts me to say that a chap knocked on the door, not obviously a "wanderer", smartish, claiming to be from a Fleet Disposal Company, asking if it was for sale.

Now, this has never happened to me, or anyone else I know before. It's my first Landy, but obviously it's generating some interest. I hope, not an unhealthy one if you catch my drift. But I am starting to get a bit concerned.

It's nothing special. To the untrained eye, the only major difference is a winch bumper - winch isn't fitted yet, and BFG A/Ts. It's usually pretty dirty too. I wouldn't buy it :)

So - is this normal for Landy owners out there? Should I be concerned? I guess it's nice people are asking rather than just making off with it.

i wud be inclined to take their car reg number, next time if yu can. Sounds a bit dodgy.

Terrorists tryin to find a better motor than a jeep?

Well you can't tell these days. That's the problem.

The only time someone was noticeably in a car was the first time. Didn't get the full reg, and he was obviously gypsy and my mum reported that to the police. The others weren't in a car. And this one today wasn't gypsy - looked smart apparently.

There's a house behind the road my parents live in, with a very nice S1 ES Premium. I might pop over there and see if they've been asked too.

Hmmm. So should I get an extra alarm fitted? It's got factory alarm and immobiliser. But would extra kit help?

No point breaking in for the keys - one set are at my house, the spare set are in a safe.

It's in an awkward position on the drive and at night there are two other cars parked in front of it, so you'd need to be rather keen to get it out. Not to say someone wouldn't try mind.

Anyone used dis-car-nect? Can you fit it so the alarm is still powered, even if everything else is disconnected?

I get the same with my cortina, everyone bloody wants it.

I get people driving along side me on the M4, winding the window down and asking if I'd sell it!

To be fair, I love old Fords and probably would say the same thing over a decent MK1 Escort. But that's because I love old Fords.

These people don't appear to have a thing for Landies. I mean - the first question I'd ask, is "looks nice, but how's the boot floor?" :D

Like I said, I guess it's better that they're asking about it, rather than talking off with it.

Personally, I would check your security arrangements just to be on the safe side.

My wife is involved in the horse world (show jumping) which is one of the reasons we bought our Disco and there are endless cases of the gypsy's asking a lot of questions about and even following home persons with trailers, horse boxes etc. and them subsequently them going missing so there you go you take a chance the same as any other though I suppose.

Id worry, my mate this week was shouted at at the birmingham toll road paybooth from a group of roughunn`s who were intrested in his 4x4 they were driving a new chrysler voyager, my mate was in an old ford maverick. They asked him to pull over so they could pay cash for the mav, but he was having none of it and drove off being chased for about 10 miles at some hairy speeds by the chrysler.my mate would of phoned the law but he new his mates were behind him in a truck, his mates being electricity pillon workers and eat glass with every meal (right good hard nutts).just shows trust no one.

Someone tried it on with my girlfriend, she was heading to work and backing off the drive in the disco. A couple of 'Road Workers' in a flatbed truck with hi-vis vests asked who the car was on the road. It was mine. They asked if it could be moved as they needed to do some work.

She came in the house to tell me to move it, when I went out to do so, they had gone and there have been no road works outside my house since.

I said that they were probably after the Disco and it was a good thing that she switched off the engine an took the keys out when she came to get me.

I have had gypsies claim to be from fleet disposal companies, it's only when you start aggressively questioning them that you'll find the truth.. I always tell interested parties to give me their phone number and I'll call them if I want to sell, you can then store their number (fake or not) and their number plate in your phone..

Hope this helps!

Dennis
