Where has the Cars for Sale section moved to because i"m still looking for a good Automatic replacement for my current car.
I want another Freelander Mk1 or 2 or maybe a Disco. Must be Automatic with History.

Hi everyone,
I might have found the perfect car for me. A 58 reg Freelander 2 HSE TD4 with Cruise/Heated screen etc etc BUT !!!!!!!!
it has over 220000 miles on the clock. The present owner tells me that the previous owner travelled back and from London on the M3 where he worked in a private clinic???? The car looks OK inside and out, a few small faults including Rear Wiper motor u/s. So is it worth going for with that sort of mileage? Or should I have my present Freelander a 2003 Serengeti with 155k Tarted up with Facelift Front and Rear, Leather Heated Seats and its already got a heated Screen not yet wired in. What do you think.

If you think it's worth the money, then go for it.
What MY is it?, mine is a 2009 on a 58 plate, but not all 58 plates will be, some will be 2008 MY, which have some differences like the Haldex is different.
The TD4 engine is generally good for over 300k with timely oil changes. However they do start to sound clattery after 200k as the valve train suffers from wear, but it's pretty easy fixed if it's an issue.
Make sure the gearbox and the rest of the driveline is working correctly and quietly. Also make sure there's little corrosion underneath, as salt in winter does cause rot.
Also check for soft or leaking shocks, worn bushes etc. Look at previous MOTs for clues as to the quality of the maintenance.

Rear wiper is common and cheap to fix.
Actually most things are pretty easy to sort, although rear diffs, PTUs and gearboxes get pricey.

Thanks Nodge 68.
The 58 Freelander has been sold but I went and had a look at a March 2008 BMW X3 TD with 145k. If it"s not sold I"m going back Saturday for a test drive. Keeping my Serengeti to sell privately.
cheers
