Hello all here,...my first post! I think I may have the Landy Bug!
I am thanking you all, in advance for the answer to the following questions and advise.
I have seen on Ebay a 1989 90 County with a V8 engine. 120K miles.
After reading various mags and forums I seem to get the impression that you guys like the 200TDI the best? and that the V8 is underpowered.
My requirements for buying a Landy are the following:
1) I live in the country and last year could not get the kids to school for 7 days! Nightmare, as I work from home!
2) I do a lot of DIY and the 90/110 would be great for my tools and moving 'stuff'
3) Great in snow and bad weather where I live
4) Quite interested in 'Green Laneing'

I will not be pulling other cars, trailers, or off roading (yet!)

Is the V8 a decent quick engine? Which is the quickest etc 300TDI? V8?
Another question if I may? 110 or 90? A 110 obviously gets more 'stuff' in the back, but are they alot heavier? i.e. less performance etc

Many Thanks

I have a 3.5 v8 90 and 110 they average 9-13mpg so I'm going for a 260hp quad cam conversion that will do near 20mpg.
Buy a discovery or diesel as the3.5 v8 daily will bankrupt you

the stage 1 series v8 was restricted, in 90,110 130 bhp ish and efi 3.5 classic 150hp ish

Well the v8 is quicker on road, since it has all the power at the high rev range. If you were going laning regularly, get a tdi, since these are more waterproof and you can basically pop the clutch and "walk" along idling. 90/110? It depends what you are carrying, I may have to change my 90 van back to a 110, simply because there is not to much room in the back. If you are doing diy as you say, you may want a 110, unless the stuff you will be carrying is very small. From what I've heard, once you get over the length of the 110, you can basically go anywhere a 90 will go. Do a search, you'll find plenty 90 vs 110 threads.

if you are doing the school run then the 110 csw would probably be the better option, unless you are looking at later models the older 90s and 110s came with side facing seats and no belts. A csw will give you 5 doors & 5 forward facing seats.

As for performance there isnt a great deal of difference between the 90 & 110 but then a doozil landy (200 or 300) is never going to be fast ;)

Unless you are very lucky and don't need to worry about fuel costs, get the v8..you'll always have a smile on your face.

If its going to be used most days then its the 200tdi.

110 as a fetch and carry...90 as a fetch and carry but with more trips needed...
