Hi all
Without boring you, this time last year my gearbox failed on our way to Cornwall. .........this morning we set off from the midlands, got around 270 miles into our journey to mullion when there was a nasty rattle type of noise coming from her.......when in neutral the engine sounds like normal, no nasty noises, only when in drive.
She was still driving and changing gear like nomal, just sounded awful.

So I guess the questions are, could it be Dmf failure or something else....
Also can anyone recommend a garage down here that could help rescue our holidays..

Thank you

Steve

Is it constantly rattling whilst driving? I thought clutch/dmf manifested as judder on take up of drive until settling down.

Unless it's completely fooked then maybe it would make a constant noise?

Did you change clutch and DMF when you sorted gearbox?

Yes, both were replaced...........

The noise is constant.....sounds awful........pulls away from stationary with no judder, changed gear without judder.....

Doesn't sound good mate, have you been underneath and checked it over? Particularly prop uj's and jack up each wheel for play. Just general stuff to eliminate as much as you can. Try posting in regional landyzoners for garage recommendations as well

could be front pulley /damper

Blimey, I just said to wifey I wonder if it could be the front pulley.... if that were gone, would it give the rattle noise and also appear to lack power?

Wod this pulley make the rattle noise all the time? As when I'm in neutral, the engine sound fine (to be honest, only from sat in the car with the rain)

often both dmf and front pulley are worse on start up idle and shut down,if its whilst in motion it would be worth checking underneath the ujs and coupling
