Oh dear sorry to hear it. :(
But we all need some Before/After pictures in order that we can properly take the mickey.
Roolz is Roolz after all ;)
It should be OK, he can probably just shave off the excess with a Stanley knife blade, and drill it a bit and go again. I don't think a bit of discolouration is an MOT fail.
Or he could just get one of the cheap repairers to do the same, tidy it up.

Haven't got insurance yet, was waiting until I'm sure she is good to go, then book the MOT then get insurance , might look dodgy to the insurance company if I get a chip on the way to the MOT and it fails on ito_O.
Was hoping to repair it up to MOT standard then maybe claim for a new one when it(cough) breaks proper:D.

get yr insurance, then you can claim, (get protected no claims), then claim for chip then take for MOT..... stones can flick up anytime, thats the whole point of insurance, they not bothered about a windscreen repair or even full glass replacement on a defender to them is super cheap, unlike a merc sl with a £1200 bonded GPS etc screen lol..

PS my windscreen had a small crack that i decided needed to be a bit bigger, when i claimed they asked me if the old one was a heated screen, of course it is I said, i also added the 'rubber thingly round the edge is a bit ropey as well"
So nice new heated screen and new rubber fitted cost me £25 excess job done, bonus was it just so happen to work perfectly with the heated screen switches and loom that i bought the day after noice! ;)

Defender screens are very cheap. When I broke the one on my Ninety I just bought a new one for 65 quid.

Unfortunately, the vehicle in question here is a P38 Range Rover, and I don't think screens for those are cheap.

Only £150 more than a defender! (£349 del and fitting) see below general punter price, so it will cost the insurance company less than 50% of that.

I never claim anything off insurance. Broken a few, luckily none of them with the heater wires, but I just buy new ones. I can usually get them pretty cheap. Think the one for my Golf was about 85 quid fitted. The Ninety got a stone though it from a neighbours hedge trimmer, but I couldn't be bothered to hassle them up for it, so I got another, and fitted it myself. They are pretty easy to fit.

Agree, on the fenders its not too bad, bit of nylon cord or HD fishing wire etc, same as most classics, sadly most of the classic cars i have done work on the screen fame sags the moment you take out the galss, which is a right giggle just think many drumsticks wedged to the dash, still thats the joys of triumphs lol, anyway most insurers if you make a claim will go for a repair for a chip, no impact to no claims etc.
Replacement screen if you have protected no claims again no impact ( not even classed as a claim)
Protected no claims normally lets you claim once in 24 months and no impact, but on my policy a replacement screen is not classed as claim in this respect.

Problem with DIY chip repairs you need a vacuum / compressor (cos of the laminate glass sandwhich ) the DIY kits give you a syringe and then you need a decent UV light for the adhesive ..... seen a few half decent jobs, but all end up with a milky mist instead of a chip, normally the tent outside halfords / auto glass chaps will do for about £40, cash, if they not busy but they will try and get you to do in via your insurance, but if you going to do that then let them come to you etc

I just can't be bothered with insurance. When I was farming, anything I could get a receipt for came off my tax bill at the end of the year, so I just looked at it as a way to get a new screen.

I am not farming any more, but luckily not broken any screens either. I have had a few chips fixed.

The ones I won't change are the ones that are bedded in mastic. Years ago, a customer had a Volvo 240, and came to us to change the cracked windscreen. We went up to the scrapyard, and they had a couple of 240s. The bloke said if we could get the screen out of one, we could have it.
We tried both, using a heated wire round the edge to cut the mastic. They both cracked, so we went back to the customer and told him he would have to call Autoglass.

yep todays bonded screens are a PIA, when they fit em the mastic gun has its own heated sleeping bag lol.

I must admit I do love a farmers repair, my farther in law made a spacer for his alternator cos the belts he had in the barn were too long lol, if you needed anything it was always 'i got so mink for that in the barn' trouble is its normally in the joinsts / rafters (standard farmer storage location) it looked like the dad from chitty chitty bang bang's store cupboard ..
