Disk Brakes on a sailsbury axel

Can you put disc brakes on a sailsbury axel? Can you just swap round the hub assembily off a disco rear axel then re-plumb the brakes? Think it would be a good improvment, i keep ajusting the drums and they keep going wrong.

Don't know looking But I am Looking into it. I have seen that on another forum they have converted a salsibury axle to fit 90 front calipers which at first sounds great until you go and brake and the back end locks up and spins you out. You need much smaller brakes on the rear than the front so I am looking into it and will do a post about what I find.

I suppose you could quite easily fit later salisbury stub axles, calipers and hub assemblies and the brackets that bolts to the stub axle for the caliper What you really need is a late disk braked salisbury axl and shafts (thay are different) minus diff. Jai

yes you can. i used to have a salisbury with classic rear hubs and calipers. the mounting bracket was welded to the axle casing. was a good conversion and quite easy by the looks of it as i didnt do it myself.

So it wont bolt on? I dont realy want to have to weld them on.

well you cant have disc brakes then cos the bracket for the caliper has to be welded on like every other disc brake axle.
if you want a disc salisbury pre done then get one off a late 110.

Actually Tig,

The salisbury caliper bolts on to a bracket that then bolts to the inner side of the stub axle fixing bolts it doesnt need welding anywhere but sourcing the correct parts and doing it is what is needed. You must use rear calipers and not fronts tho.

i have not seen that before, but have seen the one i had and two others done the same.
i think i would prefer to weld the brackets on. it does all depend on how skillful, anal and how much you can afford.

I think i would prefer it to be bolted and welded im sure 110 standard fitment is only bolted but the brackets look as if they are welded looking from the hub side. Jai
