Hi all

I'm thinking of buying a Discovery TD5 on a V reg. Have spoken to the guy selling it and he is saying that there is a slight judder on pull-away - it doesn't happen when you're driving, only on pull-away.

He's no mechanic like myself, but in his opinion it could possibly be something in the gearbox. Myself, having had a Ford Transit do the same thing in the past, have been told that it's the pressure plate or thrust bearing. Now, I know that obviously these are two different motors but I wondered if it would be something similar to the Transit issue or if there is anything that would be a common problem to the Discovery?

If it's a common issue, any ideas on what it could be and (most importantly!) what would the cost be to put the problem right? The guy is asking £4000 for the V Reg to take into account this issue.

I'd be grateful for any help or advice on this and appreciate your time.

Thanks, Mark

Budget for new DMF, and complete clutch, and oil seal on back of engine, and make an offer. You won`t really know what`s up til box `n` engine split.

I experienced the same thing on my Td5 when pulling away and assumed it was either dual mass flywheel or oil contamination......when the guy who did the job took it apart it turned out i was lucky and the clutch was virtually brand new but the spigot bush had broken up and was causing the problem, that was replaced and all was well....just cost me the bush and labour.
Not saying thats your problem but you never know.
