I got myself a nice pair of 6 ton axle stands but I'd like a pair of ramps too (!!)
(ooh! the excesses I indulge myself in!)

I got the stands from Paddock on a recommendation to someone else on this site.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced supplier of suitable ramps?
(the ones I saw at halfords looked like they'd be flattened by a Disco!)

why do you need 6tonne axle stands???????

a disco weighs in at just over 2 tonnes ( metric) so if you have all 4 wheels off the floor and the entire vehicle up on axle stands each one will be holding just over half a tonne..........

I didn't realise this was a standard flame :)

I bought the overkill axle stands because they were very reasonably priced and I don't like the idea 2 ton of Disco falling on me :)

Ok - so the the preferred solution is scaffold planks - I like it!
Though I think I'd rather use old sleepers instead of bricks - the won't scuff up my nice drive so :)

scuff up ur nice drive, the oil leaks will hide the scuffs lol,, i just use car ramps from halfords never had any problems yet and i use um most weeks lol

I've got a 2 tonne trolley jack and axles stands from Halfords a few years ago before I had the Disco, but still use them for the Disco and all ok. But I will be getting a 3 tonne jack in the new year to make it a bit easier, and maybe some 3 tonne axles tands for the extra height.

All I need is ome big thick bits of timber but no idea where to get them from

is it safe to use a wheel instead of a ramp? will it take the weight of a disco without damaging wheel/tire? i'v done this before but not with this much weight. could do with doing it now if someone can confirm if it works

Well your car sits on it the rest of the time dunnit!
Just watch the valve, put that to the side of the wheel... and watch your bumper when you reverse off...

In the end, I bought a pair of ramps from Halfords - £40 the pair.
I ran out of time for making my own because the handbrake kept loosening and it just had to be done.
So the ramps are in the boot and every couple of hundred miles I have to run the disco up 1 or 2 of the ramps, crawl underneath and tighten the handbrake.
I'm beginning to see the appeal of a 2" lifting kit with bigger wheels :)

Wouldn't it have been cheaper just to fix the handbrake?
