Hi all,
I am quite new to the site so first all I would like to say hi, secondly I would like to ask for some help.

I have a W reg discovery with a problem. Every now and again when I am driving the temp gauge goes up and there seems to be a loss in power for approx 2 mins. The the gauge goes back to normal and the power is back again. I have checked the water and it is not boiling over. This has happened serveral times and at any moment it seems. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

many thanks

Chris

The loss of power is because the engine ecu is cutting power output to save the engine. It would help if you told us what engine your car has.

The engine is the 2.5 td. I have got a feeling it might be the turbo overheating for some strange reason.

Sounds like a TD5, it has a self protecting ECU that shut's your turbo off in the event of over-heating.
The fact you kept on driving it even when there is obviously a problem is worrying.
Is the water level low when you check it? Open the bleed screw on the top hose and see it there is any air in the system. Raise the expansion bottle up first, you should have coolant come out immediately from the bleed screw.
Cooking it will do an alloy head no favours at all.
