hello

so this is the first time ive posted in the fender section

i have a 92 3.5 disco, the 200tdi shape

my drag link comes down from the steering box and to the front of the left hub, and then my track rod goes between the two hubs at the back, just like your defenders

however i have noticed in past that some/all defenders have a front steering arm on the drivers hub too, whereas the disco only has one at the back on the drivers side

i have just bought a defender axle for spares, and it has two steering arms on each hub

i was wondering has anyone/does anyone tend to remove the rear track rod and setup a front track rod, and then somehow connect the drag link to the front track rod, completely removing the rear lower track rod which always ends up dragging along in the line of fire

i have moved my steering damper to defender position already and so it could get a bit cramped up front, but i just thought id ask the question and put my mind at ease

all help/thoughts appreciated,

love from the other side :D

I've just put a discovery axle on mine and I still don't have a clue what you're on about :p

right the hub on the drivers side has 2 holes, for LHD models.

No fender that I know of should have TWO drag links, on the front - it would REALLY upset the linkage.

A lot of hubs have 2 holes on though, to save on tooling. Ignore the forwardmost hole on the drivers hub.

I hope this helps and it what you mean.

fookin disco drivers talk a totally different language over there me thinks

Track rod behind, never known it to be at the front as there's no room, so ignore the front eyes

Wot he says :D :D

ah fair enough, cheers for the replies guys,

i guessed it might be difficult to get right but thought it was best to ask in the fender section to see if anyones ever known anyone to try it.

trust you jamesmartin to start talking about ackermann :D

i'll just leave it as it is then! :)

cheers, sam

looking at wikipedia, it seem the ackermann geometry would be affected with the track rod at the front - it would actually need to be a longer track rod than the distance between each swivel hub to maintain the geometry.

probably not a major issue to end up with reverse ackermann on a land rover, but you never know!

and yes, definitely a fookin disco driver talkin a totally different language now :D

when i bought my 90, the previous owners had screwed the track rod ends all the way in, so it was fully toed out.

I have NEVER driven a car so hard to control as that, not even when my drop arm ball joint came loose... unbelievably unstable!
