discovery headlight upgrade

i have a 2000 year td5 and would like to upgrade headlights to the new clear ones does any one know where you can buy the kits thanks

tried ebay? seen a few upgrades on there mate.

simonites sell a kit fer about 500 quid i think

looked on ebay only thing they had was a cd on how to put them on

hmm, hello YD been a while but am back.

I bought mine on ebay but that was over 3 years ago, not seen many for sale recently.

Might be worth trying a Motor Factor for the new headlights and tail lights, they might have them cheaper than a Landrover dealer.

seen a couple of sets on ebay recently some going really cheap just keep looking they will be back

did the original wires fit new lights? or did you need to alter wiring

thanks for that just got to wait a day there is a set on ebay come up so far only at £150

Simmonites at www.simmomites.com do up grades for early TD5 to the 2003 style headlight for £795 inc fitting and also 200 to the 3000 style for £250 which includes the grille, indicators, finishers ,wiring and the lamps.

Hello,
I'm going to make the upgrade(to my '99 td5 Disco) in a few weeks and have a few questions if anybody can help please:
-if I'm using the proper wiring kit(from ebay) do I have to use the indications from here or do I have to solder the same colours(red to red,blue to blue,etc).
-the headlamp adjustment that works now on my Disco will work after the upgrade, or depends if availlable in the new headlamps.
-the panel that is under the headlights can be cut to fit the new ones?

TDi 200 94 I have searched the 'Disco Headlight Thread' Has anyone changed the original 50/55watt headlight lamps for the 100watt type, If the wiring is upgraded - relay added and a separate supply - are the headlight shells going to cope with the extra heat? Does the change give much of an improvement.

I read somewhere that changing a 50watt bulb for a 100 watt does not give you twice the light, it then said why, but that got to techy for me.
Same with sound with a 200 watt amp it's not twice the sound of a 100watt amp

I ran 100-80w bulbs in my old RR and they were a brighter, no probs with the existing wiring until I flashed the head lamps, then the fuse poped.

The high wattage bulbs must run hotter but I again didn't have any probs.

Soon after that the new 60% or 80% brighter bulbs came onto the market and so went and fitted them. Still use that type of bulb today.

Halfords are doing (or were) 90% brighter bulbs, buy one get one free. BOGOF

Do that, that would be good to hear, as not much is said about results of these bulbs

I found that they don't give direct (in front of you) spot/beam on the road as much, they give a bright white light evenly over the whole road ie. n/s kerb and also both sides.
If you have lamp guards, as I have, the guards will throw shadows, strange, but the bulbs are big improvement over the bog standard ones.

I have a 200 model TD5 and I fitted a HID Xenon kit for about 100 pounds (R1700 ZAR) What a difference I can now see at night it takles 15 mins to fit and you can reverse it in the same length of time.

hi, which kit did you use? can you recommend one?

The kit I used was from China, since that posting there are many other kits on the market and cheaper, I dont think it matters which one you use, it must be an H4 bulb which gives you both hi and low beams HID Xenon.
These are readily available in South Africa so I imagine you will have more options.
