Discovery All indicators flashing

Help,
Driving home in the snow from Northold to Herts yesterday aboiut half way home the indicators started flashing. It appeared all on thier own.
I did have a passenger at the time and we were driving from 13:30 till 10 pm to get home all start stop etc.
Please note all lights are working, the engine did not stop, not aware we'd hit anything although the exhaust and starter motor were changed 2 weeks ago, all been fine since then
Tried putting the hazards switch on and off repeatedly. The indicator repeater changed and the tow light came on instantaneaously then back to straight flash.
Tried switching from left to right indicator no change.
Tried truniong the lights off and on no change.
Becasue we wanted to get home i did not turn the engine off till we got home and I have not had a chance to get out there this morning to have a look,
When I stopped the indicators were still flashing the alarm system still appeared to work as did the central locking.
I did not try and restart the engine , just disconnected the battery.

HELP Please, I need it for wrok tomorrow.

Go and start it and see what happens! mine did this once after going through some deep water, they flashed for about 5 miles, but stopped after I switched her off and restarted. it could just be water or damp causing it, until you start her up its you won't know if you even have a problem to solve.

The inertia switch in the locking ecu has activated causing the hazard warning lights to flash, can be caused by a bump or vibration.
Switch the ignition on and off a couple of times to clear.

got this doing 50mph over speed humps............always wondered what caused it

Mine does it too. Seems a daft thing to have on an off roader - or are you supposed to not activate it?

And I thought that speed humps were only in a buildup area to slow down traffic for the safety of other users and people crossing, your not one that does then.

It is an inertia swith not a bump switch, so you have a problem with your inertia switch which is part of the alarm/locking ecu circuits, it has gone 'over sensitive' which can happen with electronics. It function is to override the central locking and if locked unlock the doors in an accident.

Thanks guys.
Sorted by the following.
Went to restart and fault is still the same, (by the way dis 40+ miles yesterday and fault did not change.
Open bonnet reconnect battery, fault returns.
Switch on ignition, fault still aparant
Start engine, no problems.
Let engine idle for a couple of minutes.
Turn ignition off, leave the key in the lock.
WAIT 30 seconds , timed by watch.
Turn igniton on, but not start engine, fault cleared.
JOb doner.
What a silly thng to put on an off roader!!!!!

Just had a front prop go, with a bang. Same fault with the flashers/centre locking. Solved using your method. Thanks, as I'm in the middle of Europe starting a holiday and it had put a dampener on my spirits. But faith restored.

if it happens again and by pushing the inertia switch doesnt cure it unplug it and bridge the pins in the plug...that "method" if it worked is pure luck IMO cos it has no relation with the involved technology whatsoever... though being a LR everything is possible

Had the same problem after front left wheel went in/over slightly sunken kerb drain cover as I veered into the side of the road to avoid a motor bike coming the other way around a corner down a hill in the centre of the road at speed. The bump set off my inertia switch - the remedy detailed here worked first time just as stated thank you very much.
