Discovery 51 reg TD5

Hi Everybody
Have a bit of a problem with temp guage after about 20 miles the overheating light comes on and the needle drops off the cold scale, after stopping and restarting the issue goes, it does this most journeys. Am I looking at possible headgasket although oil has no water in it and water level has barely dropped.

Sounds more like a faulty sensor on the coolant elbow (or associated wiring)
