Sorry been tied up on the phone...am just going to go through all the posts....please don't think I'm being rude, just a little overwhelmed at the moment :\ Chopper hun, I'll be inboxing you shortly when I've caught up on things this end lol x

That is how I explained it........about £50 in bits (bolts, head gasket and top end kit), plus it needs a rad, P gasket weeping.......and any other issues on the way..........plus maybe a head skim. Labour free, thats anywhere from £200 and up.

Its only DIY'able if you have the knowledge and tools etc. I would love to help out, but dont have the time. I love it how everyone always says, ' yeah, do it in a morning......' Bollocks, utter bollocks........ever had a sheared bolt, seized stud, split hose, or just dont have the right tool. If these jobs are so easy, then I'm sure someone will pop round on a saturday morning, and have it running by the time the football results come on, no problem..........In reality, no and thats what I told Landylass..........Unless there is someone out there who can afford to take the job on for next to nothing, then she is looking at a few hundred quid......I dont see people queueing up to do it as a favour, and that is the reality of it........plenty of talk about what a **** easy job it is, but nobody turning up with spanners

Prove me wrong please someone

Like yu there is prob alot of peeps that dont have the time... they have their own lives... and its a big job if things go tits up... if she is prepared to go and buy another disco she has also the money to get it done at a garage imo.

whereabouts in southampton are you as i'm about 7 miles northwest of fordingbridge

North Baddesley, but I have lost all confidence in her reliability this past month, its been problem after problem, I was looking to get another one anyway..these problems have just pre-empted the search n purchase in all fairness. I can't keep throwing money at her, I need a reliable one more than ever given my circumstances )

Thats right. Its always a tricky decision to trade in or whatever, better the devil you know and all that. Its not my car, so I dont want to say she should keep it or not. She knows the vehicle, it needs a few quid spending on it, and its just a case of weighing it up. It all depends whats out there, and the budget.

I cannot keep throwing money at this Landy, she has cost me a small fortune these past couple of months with mot work, then the other stuff that's gone wrong. I cannot entirely afford to buy a new one I am taking out a loan from my mum. I had planned to get rid of her in the next year n get a newer one anyway, and all these problems have just forced the decision sooner ... there comes a time when enough is enough. I am out of my league with the head gasket I really am, even when the water pump was replaced, there was problems with the bolts...so I just know this isn't going to be as straight forward as you all seem to think it will be (

yep I was the same with my disco, luckily my series is a second car so I dont need to use it everyday. I'm pretty sure you can shift it on here and if you need a hand when buying another there is plenty of advice on here or I could pop over but you will have to look after devil child :D

Wasn't suggesting anyone do it for nothing, just seems a shame to lose a solid Disco cause of a HGF, and what I meant by DIYable was no need for specialist kit and the overheads that involves.
If there was a member within easy reach with the time and the experience it could be sorted, they could earn decent money and Landylass would have the choice of keeping it or selling it and still be better off
