I have never posted on the discovery forum before because I only owned a defender until recently but now I have a new to me discovery 3 also .
It is in good condition 140000 miles and 14 years old, base spec two seater van but I hope to add cruise control, android headunit and more mods eventually.
I have changed engine oil and filter plus air filter and plan to change the oil in the diffs, transfer box and gearbox next weekend.
The fuel burning heater don't work and the suspension won't go down to normal height using the lever but it will when it passes a certain speed.
I think if I open the module and clean the connection between the lever and circuit board it might fix the problem? I have had the module out and split apart but not as far as the circuit board , I'm not sure it can be opened anymore without breaking it?
Am I on the right track or maybe it's not the module at all.
Any help or advice appreciated.

As a D3 is electronic, there's nothing you can do to any modules, unless you want to break them, or you're an electronics engineer.

A code reader is a must, and that's the first thing you should buy. They start from about £100, heading upwards to seriously expensive.

No point in playing with anything, unless you know where the issue is.

Cruise is easy to fit, although the buttons will need to be activated in the Ipack and CJB.

When you do the front diff oil, check for metallic particulates in the oil, as front diff bearing failure is common.

Thanks for the advice Nodge68, yeah I know its electronic and I'm not an electronics engineer either, I watched someone clean the contacts inside that module online but he never explained how he opened it.
The mechanical stuff shouldn't be a problem after keeping the defender on the road for 18 years I think hope .
I didn't think a code reader for any less 400 would be able to do much more than switch off warning lights though.
Thanks again.

By module, are you talking about the switch assembly?

An Icarsoft will do most stuff a casual owner will need. It'll tell you what's wrong, which is a good start. Unless you know where the issue is, you're ****ing in the wind.

Cruise is nice, but tbh it is a bit shti in the D3, once its up and running greta, but can be bloody annoying as it makes up its mind what it is going to do!

Icarsoft I930 100 quid, reads every system on the D3, it can read all the same info as the more expensive units, but it cannot programme, programming is nice but not essential, for the money I rate them highly.
I think they do a V2 version now?
As said code reader is an essential bit of kit on any modern car.

Yes the switch assembly.
The icarsoft will be added to my toolbox it looks great value.

I bought a LR v2 very impressed with it. It says it has coverage for d2 and lots of other models as well. Next time I get chance I'll plug it into my old mans td5 and see how much it does.
