Folks - has anyone fitted an electric cooling fan to their D2 TD5 ? Trying to work out how to prevent water and mud being sprayed around the engine when going in a bit deep !
Thanks

What the hell do you want to fit one of them for  i took my viscous fan off to help fuel economy and better in cab heat . I do alot of heavy towing & i mean heavy & its never over heated dont even move past half way

Are u speaking about Td5 m8? .... when i removed the viscous fan from mine the gauge went higher than normal after 1 hour of midtown heavy traffic. I know that 300tdi's are better in this area

Yes a TD5 never had a problem with no fan fitted even in summer that we didnt have :D

Lads iv just noticed on my TD5 2003 disco that my electric cooling fan (foremost) is burnt out and im guessing its been like this for some time as the 40A fuse in the engine compartment fusebox that supplies the fan is toast so i can only assume that it has been like this for some time...

Anywho my question is that now that i have removed the complete unit (fan motor, impellor, cowling etc) do i need to replace it as the larger engine driven fan is still sucking air through the radiators??

Thanks in advance folks... any advice is much appreciated :):)

The fan or fans in the case of a D1 in front of a discos rad normally are part of the air con system. The actual rad-cooling fan is behind the rad and with a viscous coupling.

The D2 uses the aircon fan as a backup to the viscous fan - it puts it on if engine temperature rises above a certain level. There are various after-market models available that will fit if you modify the mounting arrangements.

Thats great you guys!!! i really appreciate the response!!! your legends!
Im just after sticking on spme terrifirma rockslider sills today and god DAMN they were awkward!!!
I love working at her though!!!! :)
Thanks again guys!!! much more to follow

Mine was seized so I fitted one of these, by drilling out the three screw holes it will fit into the original plastic cover then just a quick solder job on the connector. 12" AeroLine 120w Electric Radiator / Intercooler 12v Slimline Cooling Fan | eBay
