Hi All

I need a bit of advice please

I will try and explain this major palaver the best i can, so please bare with me.....

I have a 2004 Auto TD5 Disco.... About a month ago my Auto Gearbox started slipping and i lost reverse, so i went out and bought a 2004 Replacement gearbox for £600

I got in touch with my local garage who does all my service work to see if they would fit it, unfortunately it wasn't something they wanted to do....so they recommended another local garage who they send all there big jobs to.... i dropped the car off along with the new gearbox only to get a call 4 days later to say the box was no good and had no drive!!!

To cut a long story short.. it Turned out they had Knackered the gearbox oil pump and the flywheel when fitting it!!!

So i found a local Land Rover specialist, dropped the car off... along with ANOTHER Auto Gearbox & Torque converter bought from a breakers with 30 days warranty

The local specialist said that the previous garage had bent and Knackered the flywheel when trying to fit the first box....So they charged me £100 for a second hand flywheel and fitted the second GearBox £400 in total

I went and picked it up yesterday...The first thing i noticed was a vibration on tickover that definitely wasn't there before!! it gets worse around 1200rpm then sort of clears but i can still tell it's there even though it's not vibrating the car to bits i just know its not right!

I Spoke to the mechanic who fitted the box about the vibration and he said "it's probably your crank"!!! (crank was fine before)

"or your second hand gearbox"

The new gearbox changes gear smoother than the original box!! its silky smooth... you can't even feel it changing gear.

When in neutral with no drive it vibrates....and when pulling away up to 12 1300rpm it vibrates very slightly

The Gearbox supplier is saying it's nothing to do with the gearbox....and its more than likely the second hand flywheel they have fitted..?

And the landrover garage is saying its 100% noting to do with the flywheel ......
(although they told me if i left the old one on the car would vibrate its balls off)

So im stuck in a bad situation.....the landrover garage are saying they will take the box back off...run it with a dummy bell housing and see if its the flywheel...If it is the flywheel they will change it at there cost and re-fit the gearbox....if its not.. ill have to pay them the labour to put it back together.

The Gearbox breakers are saying they won't change the box as its a tested working box...
" if it's changing gear fine and only vibrating on tickover and they have fitted a second hand flywheel its not the gearbox"

I've been on the phone all day to land rover and Auto Gearbox specialists, both saying it's more than likely the flywheel some saying it could be the Torque converter.....

So im stuck in the middle and gutted after all the trouble ive had to get my car back and Have this problem....

any suggestions or likely problems would be much appreciated

Thanks
