Hi all i'm after a storm engine for a friend to drop into her x plate disco 2 manual. I've had a look on flea bay, but have been wondering if anyone on here knows a good source for one. Its not the bmw engine, and storm in the code name. Any help would be good. Reason for changing is because the head has cracked, and is dumping diesel into the oil.
cheers alex

if thats the only problem then go for a new head the new heads are mutch stronger and this should not happen again if you get another engine the same problem could happen again next week will cost around £3-400 more guess you are looking at around a grand for an engine or go for a recon head around £4-500

Cheapest head so far second hand is £800 tested. To be honest she is looking at selling it once its repaired. From what i can tell it is a friday afternoon car.

Hi rooky how can i put this but yes please matey defo interested. Has to been the early td5 thou this one is an x plate storm engine

Well not sure myself. I belive it was an engine that rover were almost finished building when bmw took over. Hence not being a bmw engine. The storm engine was fitted in the early d2's 1999 till 2001. I belive. But if i'm wrong then please correct me. not something i want to get wrong lol.

its a 51 plate pal. Unsure about the type of engine as sierrafery said I thought all the engines were bmw 5cyl units which I think this one is. I'll get you a price either way

I think there were some differences in head design, the later ones were a bit stronger with steel location dowels instead of plastic, redesigned and repositioned fuel galleries and as already said different emission standards

I belive hers is a 10p. I didn't think there would be much difference but then again i wasn't sure as i own a 300tdi,so completely different lol. @ Rooky yes matey that would be really good if you could. I'm thinking then that the new engine would be better,or is that just wishful thinking.
cheers alex

The TD5 was a Land Rover engine, in fact the last proper Land Rover engine. Discoveries never used BMW engines.

Early td5 have 2 fuel channels in the head, the later ones only one;that's why the FPR is different also. Also the fuel injectors are different colours, the rocker cover gasket is different; you can mix the heads from one engine to another, but the cost should be higher.

cheers for that. Why couldn't they leave it simple like the 200tdi and 300tdi. I'm not so keen on the td5 but hey its a job and pennys in the pocket

I checked the Autodata and surprise.....there are 3 types of Td5 engines, one with no code just specifyed that was made between '98-'02 then the two well known 10P and 15P, I compared all the data's between them and everything is similar, except the years and the "nozzle opening pressure".....and horse power for the first :frusty:see for yurself(i put just a piece of it .........believe me nothing else is different in the autodata database.......and this is the last version)
