RJ from off of the Cotswolds here. After lusting over Landys for a very long time I finally bought my beautiful 2001 Disco 2 automatic in February.

Now, it has a gear change and stalling problem and the guys at Bourton Land Rover tell me my beloved Beast needs its gearbox reconditioned - my Covid finances are telling me I can't afford the repair. Gutted.

Suggestions anyone? Any magical mechanical fairies able to help? Anyone want to take her on? Seems such a travesty to see her go to the parking lot in the sky!

Welcome to Lz forum rules state you need 50 posts before you can advertise yer tat
but if its free that's different :D
Shame to scrap it as it looks nice enough im always in the market for busted landys but im in Scotland.

Good luck pal.

Welcome to the forum RJ. Your D2 looks good from the pictures.
Is it a V8 or Td5 that is stalling?
What was the actual problem of gear changing? I've heard from garages before mention the auto transmission needed to be rebuilt/swapped and come to find out it was the XYZ switch that was out of adjustment which is a 15 minute fix with 2 people.

TD5 - Gear changes are late and clunky, often banging into gear with a loud judder. Pulling away uphill causes it to change gear too late or way too early, causing it to hit some high revs or stall, respectively. When it pulls up to a stop I have to knock from Drive into Neutral to stop it from stalling.

Not sure if I need a mechanic or a priest. #Possessed

Do a few gearbox oils changes in quick succession and see if it makes a difference. Autos respond well to fluid changes.

rather than getting your box reconditioned, why not fit a used part? Then get your box reconditioned as and when (if you even need to, a secondhand box might be fine long term) plenty of discos get broken because of rot or other issues. Have a google
