Discovery 2 Locked out -

Hi I have looked through literally hundreds of threads for this, but still not sure of what I can do.

I have a Discovery 2 2000 plate td5. Left it for a week whilst away with work. On returning the keyfob wont open the doors or seemingly do anything. The Disco only has one key point on the drivers door and this seems jammed. I can put the key in but it will not turn at all. This may be as its never used as I always use the key fob to unlock it.

I replaced the battery in the fob. No joy.
Called out the RAC. They checked that it had enough battery by connecting to the starter motor. Yes seemingly ok.

The guy tried lots of things including trying to get the bonnet release catch free and trying to get into back door. Nothing working so far.

I can't get into the car, or the engine bay.

I am thinking to just smash a window and then get in so I can disconnect the battery. Would this reset my immobiliser and would I be able to start the car with no fob until I can get it sorted out?

Does anyone have any suggestions that can help me get in? At my wits end!

Try spraying the inside of the key slot with penetrating oil (with the small application tube). Work the key in and out until you get some movement.

Hi Nigel. I have had some wd40 on it since yesterday. Since I normally only use the key fob, the RAC guy said that it was common for the mechanism to sieze up which sounds like what it's done to mine. Neither of my keys work. Ill keep trying though before I break the window!

Dampness in the receiver above the rear headlining is a common issue with D2s, according to the Forums, so therefore faulty and not receiving signals from the fob, which is what has happened with yours maybe.
If your doors are 'deadlocked' then even after breaking-in the doors will remain locked, your only option is with the key and then maybe entering your emergency access code.

Don't know if it will help but... I have had the leaky sunroof thing and fob hasn't worked unless i'm stood next to back passenger window pointing fob right at the sensor area near the rear load light. So you could have a weak signal also and need to learn the technique of standing in car parks like a jedi waving your keys at it! Good luck.

Stick at it, should work eventually.

Just bought 2001 Td5 off my Sister who had exactly the same problem a few years ago, she had to break one of the small quarter lights on the back door in the end! She hasn't locked it with the fob or key since. Luckily we live in rural France where folk don't bother locking their cars (bit like ye good olde days)! However would be interested in what folk have to say about this issue as we would like to be able to lock the thing one way or another!

Meh.. don't lock my D1 either.. fob works fine but poxy alarm goes off if you lock it.. never thought of moving to France though..

I tried most of the various methods including standing near the sensor and waving about etc! but eventually I called a locksmith who came out and told me my lock was knackered and he still couldn't get in. Told me the only thing I could do was either drill out the lock or break a window.

Having still not got in, I decided as the lock was broken anyway might as well see if drilling it would do any good. Came out with a drill that was a bit too large and a masonry drill to boot and attacked it.

In under a minute all kinds of metal bits came out of the key socket. The alarm started and the doors all unlocked. I turned it off with the fob which now worked. The best bit is that it all seems to be working again. I can lock and unlock the car with the fob. I have just put a bit of tape over the socket for the time being until i can sort it out.

So happy again. Many thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

Fix the lock ASAP cos in this particular case you was lucky as only the BCU went to sleep and the latch switch woke it but if you get immobilised you'll not be able to insert EKA code without a good latch then you are in deep sh*T... as a good backup for all these issues is to route a wire into the engine bay from the BCU's driver door switch input which will give the unlock command if it's switched to eart and fit a hidden ''hook" to the bonnet release mechanism, then if you set the alarm to "always disarm with key" you are covered for most central locking/immobiliser problems

Just for anyone who strays onto this thread. Replaced sensor unit while headlining out for sunroofs...best £30 odd spent in years!
