The five wires on the back of a 2003 TD5 Discovery 2 ignition key, what colours are they and where do they lead as I’m struggling to find a diagram that has the colours of the wires, placement of wires on the barrel, and which wire does what.

This is so I can add a keyless start button
Any information is greatly appreciated.

Just had a look in a D2 electrical wiring manual and found this on diagram 1, it shows the ignition switch with five wires, plus circuitry involve. May help… or not.

Exclusively to crank it you have to insert a momentary switch across the brown wire and white/red wire while the ignition must be on position 2 for the engine to keep running .... if you want to get rid of the ignition switch completely you'll have to do more... it's quite obvious from the diagram discool posted which wire goes where, here's the relevant part of it, as that's what you asked for... if from that diagram you can't figure it out better not play with electrics on a D2

For now I’m just putting the momentary switch in to crank it, until I’ve found more information and learned to be able to fully fit push start button.

I have a fault between ign and starter on my van so ran a positive wire from battery to one side of a push button switch and l a wire from the other side to solenoid I just turn key to position 2 and press starter button to crank...
