Guys,

Both my drivers door and tailgate seem to have stopped working via the key fob at the same time. Ive seen threads about needing to replace the motors and my garage tells me I need 2 new ones at around £225 fitted for the pair?

Im wondering if it a coincidence they both stopped working on the same day or does one lock control both?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Have you tried sqirting a bit WD40 into them?

On the tailgate prise out the landrover badge and give it a good spray, this did the trick on mine. The other door you will have to take the door trim off and do the same with that, its worth a try.

Price for new door motors sounds a bit steep, i've seen them on ebay for around £50 so shop around.

Tbh the price quoted sounds quite fair to me if I've understood correctly that the price includes supply and fit of the 2 motors?

However, before you spend any money, can I suggest that you try squirting some WD-40 down the door button of each of the offending doors and work the mechanisms:

spray lots, work work work work the mech; spray lots work work work etc etc

Good luck

The fitting is pretty easy TBH

Remember to buy 3 packets of the little red clips that hold the tailgate door trim on - they always brake
Where abouts are you - I would be happy to help you fit them if you are local enough
:)

Thanks, thats very kind of you. Sadly Im based in Northumberland.

Im happy to pay my local garage to do the job if that is whats needed. What I cant understand is that both the drivers door and tailgate stopped opening at the same time, all the other doors work fine on the key fob.

Because of this I wondered if the drivers door motor maybe also cotrolled the tailgate or vice versa, it seem too much of a coincidence for them to stop working at the same time?

Just had the rear and BOTH nearside doors pack up on me !!!!! You can see the locks go up when using the fob but not quite enough. Is this a spring job ? not the season!! but seems funny that all thre went at the same time.Any help really appreciated/.

To the OP, on Disco 2's, the lock mechanism is sealed, so a new lock mechanism is the answer IF they have failed. The locks do incorporate the door closed switch, so if that part has failed, it may cause other problems. However, I'd expect all doors to be affected. The Body Control Unit has a feed direct from the drivers door, and all the other doors are wired in parallel, so it can tell if the drivers door is open. For a passenger door, it can tell one is open but not which one.

When my rear passenger door failed, you could hear the motor whirring as it tried to raise the lock. Can you hear anything at the doors? If so, I'd suspect door unit - they are very prone to failing. If not, you've got the possibility of a wiring fault.

To weekendpikey - sounds like you have a Disco 1 and you do have the spring problem.

Cheers!
