I am looking for a nice unmolested Discovery 1 V8 to play with I have looked at a 1998 V8 auto es today that I am tempted to put an offer in on but I have a couple of questions.
1. I expected it to have ventilated disks but they were solid, is it a straight swap for vented disks and calipers.
2. The windscreen had been sealed at the top with silicone or some such and the screen had a chip, is the sealant likely to be a problem if I have a new screen fitted.
3. The SRS light was on is this a massive problem or is there a common cure.
On the plus side, the boot floor chassis and general bodywork were almost corrosion free.

Buy it :)

SRS is most likely the ribbon under the steering wheel, easy fix.

Windscreen on a 300Tdi shape is bonded in and uses sealant to bond and seal the windscreen.

As standard 3.9 V8s had solid discs, yes it's a nut and bolt swap for vented calipers and discs.

Optional extra from *some dealers in the UK I believe and export markets, Range Rover Classics I think had them in the later years, not really sure what years/models, the LSE did for sure, but you can better buy the official Land Rover Discovery DVD rom for your PC as it has all parts listed and some great exploded diagrams for stripping stuff down and building stuff back up.

I'm fairly sure that 110 Defenders used the same vented calipers and discs so they are readily available.

But it all depends on what you are going to be doing with your truck???

I prefer solid discs of high quality over vented as I off road my truck and I don't want the vents clogging with mud and silt and risking an exploding brake rotor, same with drilled and grooved discs. they get grit and mud in there and they eat pads like candy floss.
 
I don't intend much off road, I intend to sort suspension and brakes for road then fit a tuned 4.6 V8. I had a tdi300 for many years and faded brakes out a couple of times coming down big passes in France hence wanting vented disks.

110 cailpers just fit 110s and later 90s but can be fitted

its an easy job just buy the vented calipers and discs they were an option, i did on mine d1 ,it helped in the mountains
 
I am well aware of rusty floors, sills, exploding gearboxes, leaking engines, slipped liners etc etc. I have always thaught v8s had the vented disks and a mate has just had isuiss with his D2 windscreen surround rusting and cracking the screen. I don't just want an old discovery I want the nicest possible discovery 1 with a V8 engine.

Yes, good ones are hard to find but now some 20 years down the road there are still good some good ones about, and some still in the hands of original owners, rust is not such a problem here in some places and mechanicals are all fixable.
Mine came with a great body, mechanicals and no rust but the sun had wrecked all the interior plastics and seats very dusty/dirty.
