Hi folks,

Trying to get my spot lamps fired up and working again, and have found the relay below to be the culprit.

Phoned LR parts only to find the relay is supplied as part of the Lamp retrofit kit (part number STC50039), but not separately. The kit costs £107 + the dreaded, and don't really want to spend that on a relay...

Does anyone know where I can get one? Or an alternative?

Many thanks

Jon

Pete:

I don't think it is a relay in the normal sense of the word, it is a 'control module' which enables the power to the front aux lights by means of a single-push switch on the dash binnacle.

I'd be inclined to have a good look over the faulty unit and try and find some ID on the casing, it is obviously made for LR, but with that connector in the side of the moulding, there's no way it is a standard plug-in relay.

I'll have a dig around.

Yup Peter that's right, it works of a moment switch on the dash which from my basic understanding enables the lights when pushed. They then activate automatically with the flasher/main beam.

The name on the box is Reed Automotive - google revealed an address in Witney, but none of their listed phone numbers work... guessing they've gone tits up?

I can't even open the box to diagnose as it appears to be full of putty/filler around all the components

Here's a couple more pics of it which show the business end of the connector... the little black bit sticking out the side is the fuse mount.

Also one showing the name and details on it...

Urban Panzer has a detailed article on his website on how to replace that control unit with a relay -

You also have to change the switch for a latching one (Cruise Control Switch) and swap the switch caps over to retain the Auxiliary Lamps symbol.

Cheers folks - not that competant with wiring (nuts and bolts are my forte) so might just plump and get a new LR part....

That means I'll have the rest of the wiring kit spare if anyone wants one?

That route will cost you considerably more than a Relay, a few Crimps and a Cruise Control Switch

...and, as you've discovered, those control units are cr@p - did you look at UP's picture of the tiny little relay inside it?

On the other hand, it's the easiest fix and you could probably recoup most of your outlay if you you put the remainder of the kit on eBay :)

Cheers for that!! :) Have sent through a long shot fax :)

Failing that I'll buy the LR kit and stick the rest on eBay as Paul set.

Cheers guys :)
