disco v8 auto lpg

hi all i have just aquired a disco v8 3.9 auto running on lpg. when it is on petrol it runs a bit rough but good running on lpg any ideas pleas ?
it has got 2 40ltr & 2 36 ltr tanks underslung with a tiny petrol tank.
plus when it is changing up gears its a bit harsh and i have tried to use the hi/low gear today but the gearknob will not budge in any direction so please any advice or ideas would be helpfull oh and at the moment its stuck in 4wheel is this right ?

try moving slowly to engage hi/lo and give it a bloody good shove..and they're permanent 4 wheel drive

What gear are you in when trying to change hi lo?You need to be in N.

Wouldnt use it when moving me self too many moving parts, and rarely a real need.Sounds like the selector could be jammed from no use(which is a good sign.)

The linkage underneath just seizes up with lack of use, and if you're not careful you'll bend or break something.

Get underneath with some WD40 onto the clevis yokes and pines and leave to soak, then di it again. On our 1999 Disco 2 V8 it took 3 applications to start to move, and then more after that.

We are going to fit a diff-lock linkage from a D1 soon, and will then grease up all the clevis joints and pins.

You'll need the vehicle up on good quality stands, if too low you'll be stuck for moving your arms, the clevis joints are up inside the transmission tunnel on top of the transfer box.

I've got a similar one and mine doesn't run that smoothly on the gas either. Its OK but not brill. Its I think due to setting the timing etc to one that effects the other I was told. I find mine also has a bit of a flat spot at 3000 revs which I havn't been able to get rid off properly. Don't know if that helps but hey ho!

I have an RR Classic 3.9 running lpg. On gas it runs just about spot on. But rough on the good stuff. This is because one runs more advanced on the timing than the other. Usually they are set up to run gas better than petrol.
You can reset the timing to run petrol better or somewhere in the middle. It will run but not advisable as this would lead to coking the engine on petrol (among other things) and it would lead to very hot exhaust pipes on gas.
I was told the RPi once sold a bit of kit that changed the timing when you switched between gas or petrol. Never seen it myself though.
