When I just changed the gearbox oil, I undid filler plug first to check if my pump pipe fits
filler hole. A lots of oil came out, then I drained it from drain plug. I refilled as said in http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Autobox_Oil.html, I repeated twice, then drived 20m, refilled
until 2mm of bead overflowing. I drained 4.5L (maybe including a bit mixed new oil), but filled less than 4L, It means it is short of 0.7L filling. Apparently, if the original gearbox oil was full, refilling can not reach full via filler plug. I just wonder if it affects or damages the gearbox. Any comments? Thanks!

its the right level if oil just drips out with engine running box in neutral or p

I observed if engine stops running, the oil begins to drip out. I guess oil pump suck oil up, once it stops running, oil flow down.

yes ,engine has to be running, as you need to check level as pump is circulating the oil,once engines off it will overflow, its got to overflow with engine running,cycling through the gears with the stick makes little difference unless box is new or rebuilt so is dry ,but pump must be circulating to check level ie just overflowing
