Disco TD5 Air suspension problem

Yeah, however, without waffling (one of my habits, in case you cant tell lol) I have cant remove the compressor housing without breaking the bloody thing! I have the Haynes manual, but heard that they 'might' be ok when you fit new ones. At least enough to hold the car up enough to limp to a garage or person with nanocom! But ok, I need someone to come to me to get them calibrated.

The compressor 'looks' brand new! Not a spec of dirt on it. The disco had an easy life when I bought it. I will have to work on removing it and cleaning it up but as its pumping air already, I cant imagine that would do a massive amount of good.

But all ideas greatly appreciated, when I get in from work tomorrow, I will work on getting the compressor housing off.

Any more ideas/suggestions guys?

1. Open the drivers window and leave keys in lock;

2. Jack up the car so that it is level and correct height;

3. Disconnect the battery negative, leave for two mins then re-connect;

4. Start the engine by leaning through the window to the keys and fire up the motor;

5. The ride height sensors should by now have sent messages to the SLABS ECU, so whilst leaving the engine running, remove the jacks;

All should be ok now.

All should be ok now.

Done.

And no. Still not holding. Pressure is definitely in the bags, but I cant tell how much. Just the bags feels very tight, like before, buy maybe not enough, I dont know.

Once the bags are inflated, the jack is the slowly lowered away, and the disco just sits on it until the jack is forced all the way down.

Im going bald as it is, this is just speeding the process up.

Dont tell me its the ECU. :( In a previous post, I mention that the 3 amigos have just lit up too, could that have anything to do with it? They came on a while ago, but went off after about 1 min. Nothing since, until I moved car for better jack position and flatter part of driveway. Then they lit up. As I cant move the damn car with this suspension, I havent been able to check or clear the fault. :mad:

The ride height sensors don't need recalibrating at all. The system knows its standard ride height setting, which i believe is 33 inches there abouts. I seen mine being fitted by an indipendant, and asked him about recalibrating them, he said "no need" once the last sensor was fitted the disco went back to normal height. JOB DONE

Sorry, I didn't want to mislead anybody, I've seen it in RAVE :

In Description and Operation:

When the sensors are replaced or removed for any reason, a calibration procedure is required to recalibrate the
sensors and the SLABS ECU. The calibration procedure requires the use of TestBook and calibration blocks to set
the axle to chassis height to a known value.

In repairs:

Refit
1. Position height sensor to chassis and tighten
bolts to 6 Nm (4.4 lbf.ft).
2. Position height sensor link to radius arm and
tighten bolt to 25 Nm (18 lbf.ft).
3. Connect height sensor multiplug.
4. Remove stand(s) and lower vehicle.
5. Use TestBook to calibrate height sensor.

But I'm sure it works also without it, I just thought they had a purpose to say that:confused:

I must be annoying on this cause I sincerely want to help you in your agony

You must be sure that is not an electronic controll problem before you dissasemble the whole car my friend........so find a way to scan it.....the 3 amigos could be related somehow to SLS(not obviously but you never know) just because they all are controlled by the SLABS(self levelling and abs) ECU.........I think you've done enough untill now searching a common problem........ and yours looks uncommon, it's a peculiar one:eek:

Guys Guys

Anyone got a hawkeye or nanocom that can help disco out.. cos I think his motor needs pluggin in to see whats really happening.

If I had one, I would help:) and me thinks that this could be an urgent purchase in the coming months

Just looking at Hawkeye

http://www.bearmach.com/downloads/Diagnostic/Hawkeye_v3and4_GB.pdf

And these something about Air Suspension cable..... So does this mean the system needs reseting after replacing stuff....

Disco your doing a grand job, youve done all that Id would have done... ie replacing stuff and probably more

Hi
The more i read about this issue the more i'm convinced that it's a signal fault
ie either a poor earth or 5V supply missing on the height sensors? "use a multimeter to check this " have a look at the rave manual page 1023 for pinouts
in this case a diagnostic tool is a must to see what figures the sensors are giving.
In the worst case it could also be the SLABS ECU which has a fault or gone Kaput :(
Keep us updated and good luck
Vince

Im coming to the conclusion that your air suspension situation is an electrical issue

Youve dont all of the above, so its not a parts issue

Yeah, Im getting that feeling too. I know an electrician, but I wouldnt trust him with my disco, hes a nightmare and would probably find a way to short the car out/fry the ECU etc. I do, however, have a multimeter of my own, Im just not that familiar with how to test for faults on a car.

I have found a local specialist, well, not exactly local. But Im going to have to pay for my car to be recovered to his garage, get the diagnostics done and then get it recovered home cos I wont be able to pay for any major repairs for a while, not at a garages rates anyway.

Well, if anyone can recommend a garage as close to Raunds, Northants as possible, I would love to hear from you. Ive not lived round here long enough to know one and this is the first major problem I have had with her since I got her. Yes, its a 'her', its too tempremental to be a male Disco lol.

What you need is someone local who has a Nanocom and is willing to do a diagnostic on your car to interrogate the SLABS unit.

Any Nano owners in Northants????

Disco

Question have u change the air suspension filter... just saves changing in the future if u get any problems

You know what, I havent changed it but I did inpect it and it looks ok. I removed it and properly inspected it but forgot to order one when I ordered the sensors. I had already decided to send the missus to the local LR dealership to get one. Oh, and some bump stops cos they seem to have gone missing! They were both there last week, I only noticed they arent there tongiht. Weird.

Bloody Bump-stop Fairies!

I am back :flame2:-- Just Like the terminator... but I come to help

Email Nick at [email protected] hes a guy with a really decent web site... hes located in beds ( bedfordshire ) not far from your location about 50 miles give or take

I believe hes got a nanocom - explain everything that youve done.. he may even ring... see if hes free to get you motor sorted

Hi discodoobie,

I have just come across your thread regarding your suspension fault did you get to the bottom of the problem because my disco as the exact same symptoms.
Im at a lost changed air bags, sensors, compressor works fine but sat on its stops!
