Hello,

The newfangled auto gas strut on the rear door of my sisters DS has crapped out and now makes crunching noises when it opens/closes.

I can see how to get the strut off but the wiring goes behind the rear door card.

Does anyone have any useful advice about removing the card or replacing the strut!

Thanks
Rob

None at all way to new for me, but a disco sport is not a d5
D5 is the big motor with weird rear end
D sport is the new freelander

So why are u mentioning the D5 are the struts similar to the DS? I haven’t a clue either, but for a new/ish vehicle like that like that i would be putting it in the hands of a LR dealer.:) Simples

Simply because to get the correct answer you first need to have the right info.

Of course and always at the start of the thread.
But this OP states the vehicle and the issue it has, and a question... basically... what’s involved in replace the strut. Simple answer for an owner that has a similar issue and with a bit of DIY solved it. :)

Unfortunately there’s very few if any DS owners on the Forum.

Tbh I dont think theres any at all, even D5 owners are scarce, very unpopular car down here, in fact for the first couple of years I literally only saw the very odd one and even now they are thin on the ground, D3 and 4s everywhere, still quite a few D2 about, D1 are pretty rare nowadays.

If it’s a gas strut it will pop off each end, I presume it’s an electric one tho, and you need to pull the trim to gain access to wiring connector

My car has a self opening-closing boot lid its done with an electric motor, how it works I don’t know it’s all hidden underneath panels, I believe on vehicles with the heaver tailgate has the additional wire rope and pulleys.

Most hatchbacks with power lifts use electric versions of the normal tailgate struts. These have a special motor which drives a worm treaded housing, which extends or retracts, depending on the direction the motor is driven.
Looking like this.

There's also an electric motor in the lock too, which pulls the locking pin into the lock tumbler. Saloon car power boots work in a similar way, but normally have a more compact actuator system.

Some Tesla cars are also getting power door check straps, so the door is powered open and closed.

Oooo nice to know, I’ll have to fit a pair on my 42 year Old Capri as the standard originals don’t work as they should.:(

I think thats the posh ones, the cheaper version is the powered strutt.
