Does anyone have one of those fancy and expensive gas struts on their rear door. Picked up a new Galvanised door but the old stay doesn’t fit. All the bits seem to be available on eBay and I was wondering if it is possible to make up the kit. Just need to know the size of the strut. Both length and power (Nm) would be useful.

Fitted one on my series 3. Just picked a strut up at the local tractor spares place as they are commonly used to hold tractor doors open. They come in different lengths for different makes. I had one that was about two foot long when open and fixed it out of the way at the top of the door.

I do, fitted it a few years ago as the door was doing my head in. Can't remember where I got it from but a cheap kit. Works great even with a big old wheel on the wheel carrier

That looks like a good job. Is there anyway you could measure the length of the rod and gas tube separately. Even roughly would be great.

There is a tractor supplies not far from me. Thanks for the ideas.

The strut in the photo from Jims above looks like the Nakatanenga kit (other kits are available).
I fitted one, it has stopped door from shutting on me loads of times.

I think it was a Nakatanga kit although I did mess about with it a bit getting it 'right'
Since then no problems

I'm getting it prepped for MOT tomorrow so will look at the strut

FYI on the instructions it shows a PN ;)

Great help and they have a good site also. They have the kit for €59 + pp. think it would be possible to fabricate the brackets. Just need a 24” strut with 450 Nm. Back to EBay.
