I went to insure the discovery and the old bag on the phone said it has to have a thatcham cat 1 alarm/immob.
I told her it is a 1994 vehicle and barely worth a grand. but to get insurance I have to send a certificate!
I think its got a factory fitted one, but they want a bloody certificate.
I can't swap companies because I have 8 months left on this policy.
Can I go to an alarm company and let them certificate the one I have on it?

sorry, I have a policy running on a car, I was changing vehicles.
That way I only have to pay £40,
If I go to a policy which doesn't need the alarm then I have to cancel that one and take out a new one.

I had exactly the same problem the other day. Trying to explain that mine is fitted with a factory fitted alarm/immob was like trying to explain nuclear physics to george w bush. In the end they just agreed to not cover it for theft. As it only cost me 400 quid I'm happy with that but fook me they really need to look at the intelligence of cal centre staff:rolleyes:

35 mins I was on to her on me mobile. in the end I took the insurance and agreed to post the certificate in 28 days.
I'll be out of the country by then ;)

She just kept saying "screen says I can't do that"

bit like "computer says no"

I was asked this and when I said I had no idea but it was the factory fitted one they seemed happy. That was CU. Now I'm with Swiftcover at less than half the price - I don't think they asked. You could cancel the insurance, get the refund and reinsure.

I once had a similar experience when changing cars, they said that they wouldn't cover me in my new one (a 5.3 V12 Daimler) so I asked for a pro rata refund and took my business somewhere else

Give this company a bell, I just insured my Disco Full comp for £260 quid
Norcounty Ins Servs Ltd 08453-454535
they didnt even ask about alarms etc and its a no, "no claims bonus" scheme

any ideas of companies to try for under25s??

most of my quotes are between £550 and £700 for fire&theft with 7years no claims

****inell, you're doin somethin wrong there then chap!

Adrian flux always give me the best quotes, I get quoted the same as you but I'm 20 and have no free noclaims ;)

I was with direct Line for 12yrs +, thought i would give that compare.com site a blast. After ten mins of filling in ya bits up pops 40 odd quotes, as i read the third one my mobi goes off and its the fith one down chasing the ead, hello sir have you just been on go compare ?, they sorted me good ang proper, they were called Target (could of been bulls eye, Forgot) anyway underwriten by Swintons, took £230 off D/Line offer same service, legal, b/down etc. they also took £80 a year off my other motor (beaten up toyota corolla).

Well chuffed, shop around it pays, D/Line couldn't touch this offer.

**** me!

adrian flux £402 tpft, protected noclaims, greenlane cover, and any mods they said.

much cheaper than anywhere else and with extra cover! . . . when they say i can have any mods without the premium going up is this true? or are they likely to ask for more money if i tel em bout wheels, susp lift, arches

i deffo wil if its gonna b that price, everywhere else was £100-200 more for a standard car and no laning cover.

am wel happy with that, it sure does pay to shop around
