Hi, I have a '96 disco 300tdi, mods as per signature. Does anyone know any cheap insurance companies, I am 25yo, 5 yrs no claims, 8yrs driving experience and I dont want to pay eleventy million £ insurance for what is essentially an old landy! I am currently with sureteam (as reccomended by LOI) but no mods declared, wrong I know but was standard when I insured it and haven't got round to adding them.... honest gov!!

Try Lancaster or Adrian Flux and for gods sake tell them about the mods as if anything happens they can and probably will invalidate your policy.
So basically you are driving without insurance.

Thanks for the link Stu, I've just had a quote from them. £321! Forgot to put the mods in the "further info" box first time round, same price though. I'll give NFU a buzz when I get to work. I'm well pleased with £321 as I insured it standard when I was 24yo at a cost of £401!!
ring em up after getting a quote. They usually arent call centres in far away places and might budge a bit further if ya ask em.

get yerself properly insured now... you drive into me and kill my car how you going to pay as you're insurance will be null and void... cripple me in the accident and who pays for my loss of earnings and supports my family.
You can afford the mods so come clean and stump up the money for the insurance..at the moment you're a liability and shouldn't be on the road!!!!

You'll be pleased to know that my insurance is sorted, all mods declared.... even the ones i haven't done yet. So when I drive into you, you can still support your family.

Hiya Fella...
I got pretty much the same kit as your good self, I declared it all to sureterm & didn't really alter the costs. Try agreeing to a low milage ie less than 4 or 5 thousand miles per annum. Mine cost £172 fully comp.
ps sureterm for some reason don't like fitted roll cages........maybe for the reason you fit a roll cage in the first place !!!!

I was with sureterm, rang them to cancel and she asked why... So said that I wanted a company that did mods, she then asked what the mods were, got half way through telling her and she asks "are you going to go offroad?" hmmm, yeah!!! And then she said, "oh, you'll have to cancel then"

Went with frank pickles in the end, me and the missus, £218! I was paying £401 with sureterm with no mods declared.... I was only 24 when I started that policy tho.

Heressome further info i have found out recently regarding disco insurance ,may be of some help to anybody else in my position ,i live in manchester ,5 mile north out of the centre so insurance due to the postcode is a lot higher than a lot of more urban areas, also im 46 with a perfect 28 year driving record ,never one point my claim to fame ! well being a gardener in the summer and a decorator in the winter iv been using a vauxhall combo ven for four years now but 2 weeks ago i sold and bought a 97 p reg disco but before i did i did some homework on the insurance ,you see i was with swinton with 5 years no claims bonus ,commercial that is cos of the van ,on getting a quote for the disco swinton said they only insure them as a private car hence i would lose my bonus and the price rockets ,er thought im not aving that so studied the internet and found the van insurer then autonet insurance ,stoke on trent based ,who said yes we can insure landrovers as a commercial vehicle no problem so thats what iv done ,told swinton who were not happy ! they wanted 850 with no bonus but iv got full comprehensive for use in connection with my work for 470 ,now paid in full ,so how many people have ripped off when swapping a van to a car ,landrover by insurance companies ? im now using the disco for my work just like i did with the van etc ,hope this experience may help somebody else ,ady

Just got a quote from Frank Pickles. £270 including breakdown cover and modifications notified. Very pleased with that as it is £80 cheaper than the next nearest competitor.

Thanks to 300tdistu for suggesting FP :D
