Hi all,

firstly i know nothing at all about the disco its my dads,K Reg 1993, 2.5 diesel i presume a 200????

anyway yesterday he wet out in it, all was fine, came back to it drove it away and not enough power to get out of first gear!! Its run fine and ticks over,

he has been told it maybe the lift pump? he has taken this off today but has told me it seems to be a sealed unit? so cant clean it out.....

could any of you experts shed any light on the problem?

thanks in advance

wont need cleaning it will either pump or not ,there is tell tale hole on underside to show if diaphragm leaks as diesel will come out if does ,you can tell if there good by noise it makes if cam lever pressed vigourously.under panel in boot floor is sender unit pipes going into tank rust and leak air in passenger side one off the two matters as other is return sedimentor under drivers side rear chassis leaks air in best bypassed by flexi pipe from tank to in front of sedimentor (front side of drivers rear wheel arch)refit new lift pump as these do fail reg with geniune or delphi part pump fuel to injector pump bleed air by slackening banjo bolt on front of injection pump ,if lift pump doent pump turn engine over a little as diaphragm in pump is already compressed by lever on cam ,if you still think you may have air in system fit clear plastic pipe in between front injection pump banjo and filter if done well can be left as good diagnostic part for later

thanks for that ive just been ont fone to him, he says the pump doesnt sound as strong as it used to be,hes gonna check the top of the sender unit too

where would you buy a new pump from (cheapest place) ive found this one Quality Land Rover Parts Spares and Accessories Online 1&engine=200Tdi&cattext=Fuel and Air&subcattext=Fuel Lift Pump&group=Fuel Lift Pump&year=1993 £19.99 delivered

thanks

(this will be easier to check on a 200)
But check the turbo wastegate are hasnt slipped off, I know on my 300 it loosed itself off couldn't pull a fleas foreskin back although there was a shed load of black smoke that went with it

You say it was running OK, stopped on key, but when restarted, lacked power?? When running now does it rev up freely in neutral? If not could be slipped accelerator cable. If running on low fuel level could have some crap sucked into sedimentor or filter.
Could well be lift pump, but that`s not the only explanation.

dad says it revs up sputters a bit as though not enough fuel getting through...he told me he pulled a pipe off the lift pump and only a trickle of fuel coming out, he has had filter off and said it looks clean

OK. Sounds like a dodgy or dirty lift pump as already suggested, or could be a blockage "upstream" of the lift pump. Has the sedimentor ever been cleaned? (this is like a pre-filter mounted on chassis near fuel tank) It`s often over looked in servicing. But beware undoing drain plug or dismantling it as it can be corroded after years of neglect.
