Disco Diff Locks

The low ratio lever is a H shaped selection so will it go over to the bottom left (low range/difflock) easyish? if its not been used it will be stiff but the more its used the easy it will get..... the light might not come on due to a fuse or bulb, if it will go in low/difflock drive a few metres forward and then a few metres in reverse (not too far) the light may or may not come on after this, if diff lock is engaged the turning circle of the disco should be significantly/noticeably larger than normal

I can get it into low range or neutral no problem - it just doesn't seem to want to shift over to the left.

Should the light come on for low range too? I've definitely had the car in low range and can feel the difference in the gearing - the light has never came on.

The turning circle appears to be awful anyway, and there is that horrible grinding noise on full lock. I really hope it's stuck in diff-unlock, and not the other way around!

No, no light in low range, are you trying to get it in while you are stationary? If so put the car in first and ease of the clutch so it bites and starts rolling then all in one swift but gentle move, clutch in move the low range lever in to neutral and over to difflock side then pull the lever down towards low range/difflock and let the clutch out to its bite again, and it should gently jolt in (try and do all this while its still slowly rolling) couple of times doing this, then it should drop in after that no problem...... ALL EMPHASIS BEING ON GENTLY AND SLOWLY but with resonable force on the diff lock lever as it will be stiff

Right I'll go and give that a shot. I've tried it whilst rolling and stationary with no luck but I'll go and give it another bash...

Update in fifteen minutes!

Nope, no difference.

Biting in 1st in high box, clutch in and into neutral on transfer box - no problem upto here. It simply won't budge along to the left though - tried putting all my weight on it whilst wedging my shoulder against the door - the door card was gonna crack before that thing moved!

it shouldnt be in neutral when you go into difflock, it will be either high or low. If your trying to push the lever to the left while the transfer box is in neutral nothing will happen

Oops!

I have tried going straight from hi/lo to diff-lock and that didn't work either though... I'm sure it's jammed.

its always worth getting someone who has used landy difflocks before to have go, just to make sure

Well my Dad had a Disco about fifteen years ago and he's had a go. He can't get it into difflock either. That said, the Disco was nearly new at the time and never went off-road so he had very little cause to use it (we had a series III for off-roading).

Its hard to be sure from your description but we have some boggy ground on the farm and basically its a no-no for vehicles. Even with pretty big mud terrain tyres, its too deep and maybe mud terrains would get marginally further. The 90's been stuck (its on All Terrains) and it needed a 6000 series JD to get it out. I'd shudder to take anything in there. We have a quad too but I reckon the undulations are too big for that, and it would soon get into trouble too. Maybe one of those 8x8 Argocats or something, would do it with little damage?

Basically, if it goes in, its either going to get stuck, or make a complete mess of the land if it gets through.
