Hi all,
Another joyous problem with my Disco.
For some reason, whenever I lock my disco, (on the fob or the key), the vehicle locks but then beeps the horn twice. As well as this and at the same time as this fault, the interior lights will not go off at all unless I disconnect the battery.
I have just changed the small spring in the drivers door lock that holds the locking button up so presume its something to do with that but cant figure it out!
Any ideas anyone??

^^^ +1 ...one of the door/taildoor switches is making tricks and the courtesy lights are staying on for that reason... they will fade away after 10 minutes if u wait.

Thanks for the help so far. Further update is that at the same time the rear wiper and rear fog lights have packed up too. Someone mentioned these could all be linked to the Multi-Function Unit?? Anyone come across this before??
Thanks again

Check the switches again as the two beeps is an indication of a door not closed and yes I replaced my MFU last January at £130 had all of what you have plus no lights-on or key-in beep, heated screens or interior light / wiper delay. MFUs are over £200 now from Rimmer Bros.

Discool is most probably right again...hope its a stuck door switch, includes bonnet and rear load door, the horn will sound it you try to set the alarm with the vehicle unsecured, so an open door switch will give those symptoms as for the MFU its expensive, but on the plus side I just had one fitted to a BMW E36 (1997) they wanted £350 plus the £50 to program it to the vehicle, so landies are still half the price.

Thanks again guys, I'll double check the door switches again but with all the other faults that have come up, the MFU is looking more likely.
The ebay one looks like a nice option.....
Do these need programming to your Disco though??

Diagnostic Procedure
1. Close all doors and the tailgate.
NOTE: If the oil pressure switch goes open circuit
(engine is started) during the following procedure,
the MFU will exit the diagnostic mode immediately.
2. Press and hold the heated rear screen switch
and switch on the ignition.
3. Release the heated rear screen switch within 2
seconds and the MFU will beep to indicate that it's in
diagnostic mode 1.
4. Press the heated rear screen switch; the MFU
will beep twice. In turn, operate each of the following
switches, heated front screen, rear fog guard lamps,
side lights, headlights, front wiper and rear wiper.
The MFU will beep twice each time a switch is oper-ated.
5. Pressing the heated rear screen again will cause
the MFU to enter diagnostic mode 2.
6. The MFU will provide outputs to the following in
order given below:
Heated rear screen relay energised for 2 seconds
Heated front screen energised for 2 seconds
Courtesy lights energised for 2 seconds
Dim dip relay energised for 2 seconds
Rear fog guard lamp energised for 2 seconds
Headlamp power wash energised for half a second
Front wiper energised for half a second
Rear wipe/wash energised for half a second
7. The MFU will then exit the diagnostic mode.

AMR 5360 is the correct number if u have a later 300series D1 from around 96MY onwards. It's just 'plug and play' to replace

I don't do s/h vehicle electronic stuff especially an mfu that has been powered up 27/7 for the last 13 or so years.

Thanks aston, I'll try that procedure out. I presume, if when going through the diagnostics, you dont get a beep this means that system is at fault? (within the MFU or the circuit itself?).
One other thing is that this fault only materialised after firstly removing the digital diesel solenoid (non-starter) followed by removing the drivers door lock to replace the button hold-up spring. Are there any micro-switches in this lock system that could be affected?

And now u tell us :( I would assume that's a good reason for your probs. It's also a good idea to tell us the model and year of your vehicle as some do have a switch on the lock and also don't have an MFU.

Yeah, sorry about that.
Kind of wasnt adding 2+2 together properly!
Its a 'V' reg 300TDi Auto. Not sure on spec (as I think it may originally have been intended for export but never whent) but it has no airbag system, no sunroofs, no leather but does have aircon. Fairly basic other than that.
I've had a look at the MFU and its Part No. AMR 5360 fitted to this one.
As I mentioned I had to remove the DDS and just linked the ignition feed to the solenoid. The other 2 immobiliser cables are insulated and taped up seperately. Fault materialised about 10 miles of driving after removing DDS.
I presume this sheds a whole new light on things!

Ok 98MY the last of, and it's an S model disco.. maybe, as it's a diesel i haven't a clue, and as u say it has an MFU and its without the lock switch that the early ones had.
As i haven't a clue I understand it's the middle wire that's connected what ever that is. :)
U may have to look again at your little job.
