hello

earlier in the week i drove a new disco 4 with 200 miles on it... at LRE stipton.

the car was auto and wen goin up hill or down it uses the traction control or HDC... which i must say works great and you feel you have control of the car...

Today me and my dad took his disco 2 off road at ny 4x4 centre.. his is also a auto and has traction and HDC.. that worked well aswell goin up on down hill with normal tyres on it...

now my car is a disco 1 200 tdi MANUAL !? i havent tried goin off roadin yet but was thinkin that would my car (disco1) have less control then the other 2, with traction control ??? goin up or down hill ???

or would the engine brakin help me wen cumin down ? and wud i need a little bit more speed to get up a hill !!

wasnt sure to put it in disco or off road section so i put it in the disco 1 for now !!!

cheers in advance
anthony

P.s

the disco 1 is great off road, it just means you are gonna have to actually drive it instead of relying on the electrics to get you through:rolleyes:

Yes you must use engine braking when going down hill . The best choice is Low Ratio , Diff Lock in , and first gear or second gear . Up hill is the same but second or third gear depending on the terrain . Regards Jonathan

a disco one is more than capible infact i reckon it would **** all over a disco 2,3,4 but you have to actually drive the disco one not rely on computers to see you safe

how come you dont have difflock? should have:D

Get you diff lock fixed before you try any serious off roading, especially steep slippery hills (in either direction)
What is wrong with it? The linkage is often seized if it hasn't been used, there have been a number of threads covering how to do this.

cheers guys for the replies but i dont av diff lock so i will c how it goes !

cheers anthony
if its a disco one ya will have difflock.Engine breaking is better than HDC, HDC eats discs and is reactinary.Think of it as ABS stopping ya skidding or driving slow enough not to skid.

well i was tryin to fix my diff lock and as i was drivin on the road to testd it i heared a bang from the front left side !! i put a new switch in it... as i was testin it i took it out well thats y i thougth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then as i turned BANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG ... then OOOOOOO **** BOLLOCKS ETC ETC so got to wait to save up as i have tryed to jack it up but no luck !!! i was thinkin of gettin air locker ??? is this good as it has very gd reviews ???
