I'm thinking of buying a new disco to tow a caravan but I've just read all the reader reviews on what car and there's a lot of unhappy owners there, is it really a reliability nightmare?

do you need to buy brand new
we have a 94 200tdi it has been through this summers floods with the van on the back and exept for silly things oh and some expesive new sills we love it would not swap

I like the peace of mind that comes with the warranty, I'll hopefully extend it and keep the car for at least 5 years.

I remember buying my Disco 2 (TD5) from new. Some of my mates were ridiculing my choice. One guy purchased a Subaru Forrester at the same time as I bought the Disco...his reason was that the Subaru's were supposedly more reliable (according to JDPower). I still have my Disco, and it's been great. The Subaru had 3 gearboxes before the guy sold it! You just don't know. Buy a Disco3, treat it well and I'm sure it'll be fine...

Thanks Martin, funnily enough the subaru forrester was on my shortlist, no diesel though but that 0-60 time is unreal. Also on the list was the freelander, toureg and landcruiser. I could only afford the 2.5 toureg which apparently struggles with its own bodyweight never mind the caravan, test drove the landcruiser and preferred the land rovers.
