all new track rod ends, king pins, bearings, steering box been replaced with 2nd hand unit, steering box has been slackend off as it was a bit tight but when i turn my wheel my steering dont wanna seem to return.
i can turn for a bend and let go of the wheel and the steering will keep the bend for me?
i think i am gonna point towards tracking issues as it seems to want to understeerin when turning right, i think the wheels are towing in by the feel of it but i cant see it.
just after some advice on it really.

had you tried letting some air out of yer tyres ?

whay you say that? i would have though less air would ahve caused the symptoms?

trewy just metioned that the steering box was slackend off. steering aint no where near as light as the 300.

cheers for the replies lads. ;)

had the same problem when i changed the track rod and link arm ends kept pulling to the kerb really bad:eek: and the steering was really heavy.

took it to be tracked up an it was sound:D

but the bloke did say it was miles out, even though i set it exactly as it says in the rave manual.

i've had exactly the same problem on a few vehicles where crapfit/ats have fitted new tyres and well over inflated them - also very recently my father in law spent weeks adjusting steering components on his recently completed cobra rep trying to get rid of it's tendency to not to self centre only to also find over inflated tyres

i'm assumming you've run a length of string around the vehicle so it's just resting on the wheel hubs - this quickly shows up any odd setting as wheel alignment is normally neutral or as near as makes no difference

doesnt pull at all, looks like i swap the damper and get it tracked, struggling to find someone who specialises in landrovers as if its to be done its gonne be done right.

try ATS or another truck tyre place - ****fix and the like will just make it worse

The universal joints in the shaft from the bulkhead to the steering box start to sieze up. starts off as a notchy feel then gets worse and of course yoiuu start replacing all the expensive bits.

Take of the shaft with the two UJ's and see if they are free! When thats done then reset the steering box.

regards

Dave

still fall through if yer **** it to get the steerin wheel off..............(been there) as for the uj's it not them, column was removed for change of box.
