Disco 1 Disco 200TDi Aftermarket Diesel Sender Unit Wiring

Hi all,

I am investigating a low power problem on my Disco 200tdi and by elimination I suspect it might be something to do my unloved sender unit. I removed the cover on the boot floor to find that the small wire seems to have snapped off from the plastic plug that slips onto the metal lug (see the fully transparent area in my photo below):



My question is what does that wire do?

I suspect I need to reattach it to the plug or solder it direct to the metal lug.

Do you know what the small wire is for?

Are you certain that it's an electrical wire not s thin pipe?

Yes, completely certain. Could it be an earth?

I can't find it in any diagram so as long as the gauge works i have no ideea, was your vehicle fitted with a fuel burning heater?

No, the disco does not have a diesel burning heater. The sender unit is the aftermarket type like this one:
