Hi there new here,

Potentially looking to finally get my first landy. Its a 2001, 4.0 ES.

I have yet to go see the car and have read the buyers guide already, and know to go through it thoroughly. The only noted problem against the car is that it doesn't kick-down under throttle but other than that it drives fine. I have read a bit about this and have seen its a cable driven kick down. So first of I will check this has the correct level of adjustment.

On the phone the seller mentioned an XYZ sensor, could fix it? I'm really looking for any suggestions on things to look for that may be causing this issue before i buy.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome, XYZ switch is expensive and hope he knocks the £350 off the price for one. Could be kick down cable out of adjustment.

I would be underneath it with a toffee hammer and looking over the rear end of that chassis, and then the front of it too, no point buying it cheap for an XYZ switch only to find out it needs a re-chassis!

Yes it could be the kick-down cable requiring a bit of adjustment if a D2 had one.. but it doesn't, it requires the input of the throttle position sensor to determine when kick-down is required then the electronic wizardry the vehicle has takes over.

So after your comment done some reading and looks like I was given some duff information at some point, thnaks for teh point in the right direction. So from what I have read on RAVE it is possible for the throttle position sensor to cause this too, would there be any other symptoms to look for to point to which area the fault is coming from?
