Disco 2 TD5 missfire?

My disco has been running well and I've had no problem until the weekend when I'm getting a very hit and miss missfire. A full service was carried out only about 2 k miles ago and all the filters were changed, and I've loads of fuel in the tank so any ideas where I should start looking.
Feels like kangeroo fuel at times but most of the time runs fine.

check for oil in the red plug on the ecu, common cause of misfires on td5's, if its got oil contamination then change the injector wiring harness
 
Just a humble oppinion from my own experience: replaceing the whole injector loom is wasted money...it's enough to change the o-rings from the plug(available as spares NYX100080 INJECTOR HARNESS O RING | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series) coz this is the place where the oil brakes through into the engine harness. The injector loom was struck out to be in oily environment anyway. The real fix is to put new genuine o-rings(eventualy some sealing material), replace the contaminated engine harness and check the involved plug(the one from the engine) time to time then if it appears oil there replace the o-rings again...this way u'll keep the oil away from the ECM plug. I've changed the injector loom about two years ago and last week i found oil under the plug again....i replaced just the o-rings and now it's clean. That's what happened, not an advice nor polemic but it seems quite logical to me.....we'll talk about this after a year again;)

I'll need to get this looked at but will the problem get worse or fail completely how long have I got to get it sorted?
If it is oil can I just clean the wiring loom or do I need a new one ?

loom can be cleaned by soaking with solvents and allowing a long time to dry but they cost around £30 so probably false economy

Do the job sooner rather than later, as if you leave it oil can get into the ECU - not good.

The rectification of this issue is in two stages:

1. Check for oil in the red plug on the main ECU next to the car battery and clean as necessary with Brake and clutch cleaner - you'll need to do this several times over the coming weeks as the residue leaks down;

2. Replace the faulty component with either new 'O' rings as previously suggested, or buy a new injector loom.

The sooner the issue is resolved the better it will be for the car.
 
A quick look at the wiring going into the ECU near the battery and it all looks dry?? It is a bit dark but I cant see any oil around any of the plugs should it be obvious :confused:

You need to disconnect the red plug from the ECU to see if there is any oil.
