Evening all,

Just want to check before looking for another steering box,

Question - when on full lock and you rock the steering slightly there is a knocking noise you can here, then if you hold the drop arm you can feel the knock which doesn't seem right ? It's not hitting the lock stops as rocking the steering just off the stops, is this normal or not ?

Thanks

normal box has a tight center spot with play increasing as its turned to either lock, which is why steering should be set so steering box is centered when driving straight

Hi James, thanks,

Haven't touched anything yet, I have a slight issue with the steering linkage "U" joints where they go tight and notchy, quick spray with WD-40 and all ok for a while until I can get round to replacing them, so tonight was the night for a spray, while looking around and checking the steering only noticed the knock/clunk in full lock when rocking it which doesn't feel right but not 100% sure,

Also think that something isn't right with the box as the steering wheel now isn't central when driving in a straight line it's pointing to 10 o'clock but the holes line up on the drop arm and box ??

Thanks

change the ujs ,set box central via the pin up through the drop arm ,then set steering wheel, then go for a drive and if needed adjust drag link to center steering wheel

hi James,
a while ago I know, been busy with other stuff
can the ujs be changed on there own instead of the whole component like a propshaft.
thanks

Check there's a good level on the PAS fluid too - ie at the full mark, these boxes can groan and bitch like no tomorrow if it drops even a slight amount.
